back at ya JohnOk... this is my threory on what will happen now that the magnetic field is gone
-The healing abilities of the island will go away... both Locke (can't walk), and Rose (had Aids I believe) were both "cured" by the island, but I think the magnetic field, or something inside of it, was what created this "miracle."
-People will now be able to escape from the island, and find it at will. No more of that "snow globe" affect.
Just my ideas.

oh and we dont know if its destroyed, perhaps the key just turns it off, and what we saw was the EMP before Desmond turned the key
some food for thought from some of my posts on SoCalStangs where we are having a similar discussion, let me know what you think:

yeah if they are the good guys then why not send a rescue party instead of spies? also didnt you find it odd that Ben assumed there were survivors? if I saw that I would think that no one would survive. I didnt catch the part where the kid asked about the plane, I wish I could go back and rewatch that, but I just switched DVRs for a new one so the old programs were lost.

thanks for this link, I went back and watched it again, the begining in the book club scene it is interesting to note that they are reading a Stephen King novel, the entire show is very much based on Kings novels, especially the stand and the Dark Tower series, which hits on a lot of things in this episode. However if you look closely they are reading Carie, interesting for several reasons. First a bit of immediate forshadowing, in Carrie before she develops her powers she makes a rock fall from the sky (or something like that, if I recall correctly) and immediately after this book club scene in the movie they go outside to see the plane fall from the sky. It also is about a child with telekenetic powers which seem to mirror Walt's shiningesque powers or power that the island somehow amplifies. Also one other quick thing and possibly some more foreshadowing; Carrie's "Free Will" is based on the main character trying to break out from under the ultra relgious views of her mother and the contempt of her fellow classmates. If Ben is the mom and Juliet is Carrie, then we'll see Juliet play loyal until she realizes that Ben is the true enemy and turn on him.
Just throwing that out for you since you and I seem to be the only 2 that are into this show. What you think?

Im not so sure about that....
first just because the magnet went off and there was an earthquake doesnt mean that there would be a plane falling from the sky.
second when the earthquake happened they did not immediately run outside they freaked out and ran for the door jams for their safety, then went outside to gather as a community and see if everyone was alright or what was going on.
third they looked up most likely because not only would a plane ripping apart that low to the ground be very noticeable but also it would be very loud
Im not convinced they know of the magnet or are even part of the Darhma program, because if you remember at the end of the last episode of season 2 the magnet not only went off but was destroyed by Desmond and in this first episode of season 3 no one seems to care or even be concerned or ask questions about it. Also their small city was flawless and beautiful at the time of the plane crash and now it seems to be all jacked up, the bears escaped from the zoo somehow and now the Others seem to be really fighting to hold things together.

save your sanity and stay away, youll get sucked in, first it was the Hanzo Foundations Phoneline, then their website, then secret codes and decoding to find secret links on the site and new sites to find out small tidbits of info and dates when more info will be released, then the Darmha site and youll start to follow the goings on of this FAKE organization and as if it is real with then the Lost Experience, Apollo, Rachel Blake and Mittlewerk and all of this which is all done in real time modern day and now watching last nights episode where apparently the island is stuck in 2004, which can only mean some wierd time space continuem thing going on that can explain how only 69 days have passed on the island and its still 2004, but in the case of the Hanso Foundation and everything else it is currently 2006. Stop now, run, get away from the addiction and just enjoy the show.
ok lets start to open this can of worms, Id like to start with the title "The Glass Ballerina." Now this can obviously on the surface refers to the innocence and that which is lost of the characters of Sun, Jin and Jae in the episode. Another parrallel: Sun's lie about the glass ballerina got the maid in trouble/fired; her lie about her affair got her lover killed. And what about the fact that the episode opens with Sun breaking the glass ballerina by it falling to the ground and ends with her lover Jae dying by falling to the ground; now besides the obvious that the two both fell to their demise, could it also be symbolic of Sun being the cause? And I am refering to more so then just her affair leading to his death, for some reason immediately seeing the scene of Jae smashing into Jin's windshield I thought that Sun pushed him...hmmm?????
Also before even watching the episode when I saw the title I thought of Tennessee Williams' play The Glass Menagerie and the concept that, like glass, people are very fragile. Sun's lying was in order to show that the main theme of this episode was trust. It was really all about who could trust who, and if you cannot trust someone does that mean that they are not worthy of being forgiven. Also, it touched upon the idea that lies can destroy not only others but the individual.

Also the girl was talking to Kate about the kid that was in the cell. Obviously he was a decoy of some sort. Im sure she'll pop up again and slowly start leaking details. I dont think she knows that she is the daughter of the crazy jungle lady
Dont know how they got past, perhaps they uses small boats???? Dunno wondering the same thing, but Sayid and Jin were in the bushes and didnt appear to be anywhere near the boat since it took forever to run to the dock.
As for Jae, it is possible that he did kill himself, honor is huge and he was incredibly shamed even if Jin didnt know why he was really there, Jae thought he knew and perhaps as an after thought in his mind it wouldve been better if Jin killed him, less shame. But that would be boring. It also would be boring if the obvious happened and Sun's father had someone else follow Jin just in case he didnt go through with it, but then I think we wouldve seen another encounter between her father and Jin since he went to the funeral. So that leaves Sun as the only real choice, she definately had the opportunity. She knew Jin was being sent to "deliver a message" to Jae and she knew why and when, she probably followed him. And when he didnt do it the only reason I could think of that would make her do it would be to protect Jin from her father and save his honor. Remember a good amount of time went by between Jin leaving the room and the time Jae fell, this is too much time for someone else to just roll in and chuck him off the balcony, so he either sat and contemplated suicide or she came in and since he knew her there was no immediate threat thus taking time, she also wouldnt be able to overpower him so perhaps they were talking on the balcony and she pushed him, or perhaps a combonation of the suicide attempt aided by her shoving him when he changed his mind, or her not stopping him or saving him???? Whats funny though is the scene at the funeral her dad says "he jumped to his death" yeah after trashing his room with his face....lol!
Im starting to think that perhaps that kid isnt a decoy, we know that the girl has tried to save the Losties before when we first encountered her, so we assume she is good and the fact that she is concerned and looking for the boy makes us think that they are friends and he too is not part of the others. Besides they seem to not be able to reproduce any children of their own and these are the only 2 kids we have seen on the island that werent on the plane. I dont know if she knows who her mom is or that she is still alive and on the island, but she definately seems to know that she doesnt belong in the group.
OK so that was a bunch of deep stuff, how about a little fun with the show, did you notice the Cool Hand Luke reference? Sawyer playing CHL with direct lines from the movie: "Hearing you Boss" and "Moving it Boss." CHL being a classic movie about a Southern Minimum Security Prison and how they go about breaking one man in the chain gang. Sawyer is very much like Luke from the movie. A rebel, smart, cagy, manipulative. But ultimatly he is still a prisoner. Another fun thing they likened to CHL is the scene in CHL where the chain gang is in the middle of working the roadside near an old house when the young hot female occupant, Lucille, comes out and puts on a show washign her car in front of them. The reactions were truly painful to watch... and not unlike Sawyer taking a gander at Ms Kate.
One of the things about Cool Hand Luke is that he is a Christ-figure to those prisoners. The eggs sequence, for instance, leaves him on the table, visually crucified. Sawyer is a rebel against society. That served him and the Losties poorly in Season 1. They tried to cooperate and he'd screw it up. Now that they have an enemy enforcing law, is the outlaw the best person to save them? Does he become savior-like? There are LOTS of biblical possibilities there.
I found this entire scene very entertaining. The writers were having a little fun with us by mimicking dialogue from the film and Sawyer was having a little fun with his captors mimicking the dialogue from the film, since we know him to have a lot of pop culture knowledge and makes various references often. In this way, he shows an outward respect and inward disrespect for his captors at the same time and there's not a **** thing they can do about it.

Wow I just remembered something. When he fell he was holding the pearls in his hand. So maybe she did kill him. Wait nm she didnt except them....****it. I think he killed himself.
Jin didnt tell her he knew she cheated on him, what we find out is Sun tells Sayid that Jin knows that she betrayed him, we dont know for sure which betrayel they are talking about.
And I dont remember exactly but I do know she says she cant except the pearls, then Jae tells her she should run away with him and I believe they leave it at that in the scene, so does she or doesnt she take the pearls???

ok tonights episode:
as I watch live....was that a wolf that came out of the sweatlodge right before Locke came out, animal spirit guide?
if Locke is a wolf then perhaps Hurley is the polar bear??? He seems to have to have a tie to the bear, always appearing just after the bear shows up and the comic book was his as well in season one and there was a polar bear in that

a connection to Heroes???
Desmond can predict the future? read minds? bend time or see it as one, ie past, future and present are one and thats why he knew of Lockes speech before it happened but then when Hurley questioned him he seemed to know it hadnt happened yet....very interesting. Not only would the connection between the 2 shows be the new supernatural powers but also the tie to the "watchmen" where Heroes might have been drawn from, follow me here: In the Watchmen Dr. Manhattan also steps out of time and can see all points simultaneously after a freak accident involving an emp-type explosion.
The island a character????
Is the island alive? or at least a character in the show? here are some reasons why it may be:
1. Locke finally was able to talk to the island through Boone. The sacrafice for the island's purpose.
2. Ecko was passed out when he spoke to Locke. The idea was that Locke saw him...what he saw whas the island speaking through Ecko.
3. Desmond has also had the island speak to him which is why he knew what was going to happen.
perhaps the hatch blowing up has given them the ability to talk to the island?

Echos Jesus Stick:
Locke finds the stick or it finds him, but it has passages on it, could it be the islands way of telling Locke what to do and where to find Jack, Kate and Sawyer? I think while Eko recovers, John will sit down with this stick...and start reading it...and suddenly...he will see it as the island speaking to him...telling him he must head north to save Jack, Kate and Sawyer. I'd be willing to bet anything the Other's real camp...and the Hydra station are due north.
There's a reason why they showed that scripture so closely. Eko's stick will be his new "further instructions".
What appears on the stick that we can see:
-"lift your eyes and look north"
-4 8 15 16 are visible
-acts 4: 12: "Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved."
-gen 13: 14: "The LORD said unto Abram, after that Lot was separated from him, Lift up now thine eyes, and look from the place where thou art northward, and southward, and eastward, and westward."
-rom 6: 12: "Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof."
-john 3: 5: "Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and [of] the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God."
-hab 1:3 Why dost thou shew me iniquity, and cause [me] to behold grievance? for spoiling and violence [are] before me: and there are [that] raise up strife and contention.

some more things about tonights episode:
Pop Culture references:
Charlie references a movie entitled "Altered States" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0080360/ in his conversation with Locke:
"You want me to make sure you don't de-evolve to become a monkey".
Brief synopsis of movie: Through his studies of usages for altered states of perception using hallucinogenics, a university professor stumbles upon a unique theory of evolution and discovers new realms of possibilities regarding humanity.
Desmond = Jesus from Jesus Christ Superstar. He looks like Chirst. Especially the tye dye. Could he be a Christ figure?
Hurley mentions The Incredible Hulk
Eddie was headed to Eureka:
There is a SciFi show called "Eureka" about a secret town built to house the best scientists and thinkers to protect valuable secrets and work in an environment with no distractions. Coincidence? I think not!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eureka_%28TV_series%29
Is the sweat lodge scene another reference to Stephen King? A simimlar scene was prominent in the book "IT".
"Col. Kurtz/Apocolypse Now" parallel to Locke in the Sweat Lodge???
From Apocolypse Now: "You have to have men who are moral... and at the same time who are able to utilize their primordial instincts to kill without feeling... without passion... without judgment... without judgment. Because it's judgment that defeats us."
Who does that sound like?
One far stretch but if Desmond did travel through time after the explosion then him appearing naked after his travel would be much like The Terminator, you cant travel through time with your clothes...LOL!!!
Parallels:
-Charlie says to Locke "you didn't call, you didn't write" when he's in the church. Just like when Charlie finds Eko in the hatch and he says that to him, because Eko ditched the church.
-We open on Locke's eye and he is lying down in the same position as Jack in the Pilot episode. Then he hears a rustling sound, like Jack heard Vincent. Instead of Vincent running by, it's Desmond. When Jack stood up, he saw the white sneaker hanging in the tree. When Locke stands up, Eko's jesus stick falls from the tree and hits him, or nearly.
please feel free to chime in on what you think people...lol!
well the good news is that these new episodes seem to me more action than anything else so the insights to the show are mostly into the writing and not so much the plot and mystery of the show as the first 2 seasons were

...looking forward to it....
Thats hilarious, because Im in Intro to Comp. and I despise it.
