Sorry, bad idea, just like this whole, ill-conceived plan.

I think those two could be good choices, as long as they don't try to throw a bunch of jokes into the show. They're both huge car enthusiasts, probably know how to drive a car properly, and have a lot of personality.

I'm sure though that this version will be nowhere near as entertaining as the original series.

Wouldn't mind Tim Allen in it.

Jerry Seinfeld:
"...and what's with this interior on the 2010 Camaro...."
someone says something funny
"...I knowwwwwwwww..."
Shoot me

Leno would be perfect IMHO. A true car enthusiast who could bring his own take on humour to the show seems a far better choice than a Clarkson wannabe. My vote for a a US shores Stig stand in has to go to Bill Elliott. He's getting up there in years but the man could go fast in a Prius given the chance. He also has a good personality and is a true car enthusiast, something strangely lacking in a lot of the younger crop of drivers......And he is effectively retired which means he could actually do the show.

For our version of the Stig personallity doesn't matter. The stig just drives, never says anything, is never seen without a racing suit and helmet.

I agree. He's not an American car bigot nor a foriegn car bigot. Look at his car collection, He's got everything from a tank engined hot rod to a Mazda Cosmo. That's where the NBC Top Gear could differentiate from the BBC Top Gear: in the tone of the show. In my opinion it would be best to stay away from new car reviews and focus more on car culture in the US and covering cool and interesting cars. Heck, just feature a car from Leno's collection on every show.

There's so much potential for humor in US car culture: car shows, drifters, riced out cars, monster trucks, art cars, the rat rod movement, etc.

Yes, he'd be a good choice. Who better to track tests than a veteran pro race driver who actually likes cars?

I forgot about him; he'd be good too. Would probably demand a much smaller salary than Leno or Seinfeld too.

What happened to his latest show, called "Gears"? I started watching it last year when he was doing a Ford V8 powered Miata project but I can't find the show anymore...

I like Leno, but was thinking Titus or David also. Seinfeld? No. But my wife says David has to buy some looser fitting pants.

Leno would be awesome, because I think he would shy away from alot of jokes, just some car humor. I'm not to crazy about Seinfeld as a car show host. I really like that guy from MuscleCar on Spike, Lou, he's funnier than h***. But no series will be as good as the original.

I think a critical point here would be that out Topgear would have to be fundamentally different than the British version. If the idea is just to copy what the Brits have done, and that is what happens, then the show is doomed from the outset. While the whole Stig persona works for the existing show an American versions would be better off without it. The reality that Bill Elliott could very likely outdrive their 'Stig' without breaking a serious sweat, and that he would find hiding himself behind a racing helmet every week rather silly and is candid enough to very probably say so, would make for an interesting break with their formula IMO
