EXACTLY! Public transportation in Europe is FAR better than the U.S.! Unless you live in a city or immediate suburbs you are screwed here....you don't have a choice of whether or not to drive...you HAVE TO and that is another problem that should have been addressed long ago but there is also a lot more real estate to cover in the U.S. as a whole as opposed to most European countries.

 

You can't even compare Europe's gas prices to the US's and I'm soooo sick of hearing that arguement. The US's economy and infrastructure is built on cheap energy, 40+ mile commutes are common in the US, that would put you working in another country in Europe ( slight exaggeration). Taxes are a significant part of the price structure for gasoline in Europe. Yes the gasoline is taxed in the US as well, but amount is less and we make up for it in other taxes. It's like saying that a condo w/ a $500 mortgage is so much cheaper than a home w/ a $600 mortgage but not mentioning that the condo has $250/mo in mandatory association fees, etc.
If the price of gasoline was to triple over the next 6 months, Europe would be significantly impacted, but the US would be crippled.

 

Actually situation in Europe its not that much different.
Only the biggest cities have a good public transportation. Pretty much same as the USA.

 

Ok, so don't compare the US to Europe. Let's compare the US to Canada. You guys in the US are still paying a lot less than we are in Canada. Right now I am paying $5.10 per US Gallon. My daily commute just to get back and forth to work is over 40 km a day. Obviously I do more than just drive to work. Right now I am spending on average $300.00+ a month on gas. 3 years ago I only spend $140/mth on gas. I rarely go on the casual weekend cruise anymore.

 

I have to disagree there....I personally have spent time traveling in Europe and found it far easier than in the U.S. From buses to trains to taxis and subways in the cities you can travel the city easier than the countryside but you can still travel the countryside. I also lived in Ireland for 4 months and their not as well off as the rest of Europe and I could still travel easier than in the U.S.

The Russian block of countries may be different as I have not travelled there but as far as England, Ireland, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, Italy and Greece I can say from experience that they are better off when it comes to public transportation.

Well, we hit $100 a barrel today but it looks as if Ike will mess that up for us. That's still another $25 from a little over a month ago. Close $50 from the middle of July. If we can just keep up this trend I predict gas will be close to $2.00 a gallon by next spring.

 

Thats why we sold the 07 GT and got a TrailBlazer !!

For some reason, price at my local pumps went up by $.20 over past few days.

It wasn't at $2 last year when oil was $80 a barrel.

In its monthly short-term outlook, the government said prices at the pump would likely average $3.61 this year and $3.88 next year. The new estimates are slightly lower than the predictions in August. Crude oil prices are expected to average $116 a barrel this year and $126 next year, as global demand recovers. Heating oil will likely cost $4.13 a gallon this winter, up 25% from last year.

 

Sounds about right. I have a V6 Trailblazer and I get about 16-17 all around. My GT/CS gets about 21.

Stop your whinging. Even with the $ strengthening over the past 3 weeks we are still paying $7.15 a gallon (us). Luckily, my Jeep runs on LPG, so costs $3.60 a gallon!!!!!!!!!

 

so gas went from 3.41 this morning to 3.85 tonight, there was a line of probably about 30 cars to get gas at one place. We're not going to see any of the storm, it's a complete mockery of people, and bs to charge .45 more 12 hours later for the same gas. what a rip-off

 

there is a local gas station in Winchester TN that went up to 5.80 a gallon tonight.
