Question

Go big or go home

Klipsch THX Ultra2

I've heard and seen this system, and it BLOWS EVERYTHING AWAY...
it better....for 14,000 dollars Canadian.

It rivals most of the SilveryCity/Multiplex systems around here....
Man I need to win the lottery....

Klipsch rules,! I used to have a pair of Klipschorns and did they ever rock!! They did require a ton of power to get them moving though I used an old Ampzilla to run them.

That system you showed us must be awesome!!

I got it from the theatre I worked at previously that closed. They were just going to toss the stuff so I snagged some to see if I could use it. The surround speakers sound great. All I need for those is a receiver.

John,
What theatre was that?

I have a set of ProMedia4.1 for my PC and man they rule....
THX certified ... loud and INCREDIBLY clear.

The THX Ultra2 system I heard in an room way too small for the system (in the store) but they had T3 playing, and MAN.....

SOOOO incredibley loud.... and SO clear.
Just like THX is intended....
Felt like you were actually IN the movie.

For most people that system is incredible overkill...but man..if I had the money... I wouldn't hesitate for a second to grab them.
I'd just need to have a room big enough to utilize them

I currently have a Bose Lifestyle 25 system, It has very reasonable sound, is super easy to use (I don't mind multiple adjustments that other systems have, but the wife really likes this system) and most importantly I won it in a contest.

Mine's in the planning stage right now. I just got a real job, so probably this winter (depending on if I get a motorcycle) I'll start building my theatre setup. Here's what I'm looking at:

Magnepan MMGW/MMGC wall-mounted planar speakers
SVS 20-39PCi subwoofer
Yamaha RX-V757 7.1 channel receiver
Denon DVD-1920 DVD/DVD-A/SACD player
Music Hall MMF-2.1 or MMF-5 turntable
Some sort of CRT rear projector TV around 40"

I heard some of the next model up Magnepan planar speakers at a demo room in Atlanta, and fell in love. Those things can convey a wealth of depth and soundstage like no 'normal' speaker I've ever heard...and I've heard some darned good speakers. But they're 4 ohms, which is why I have the Yamaha receiver listed...most Denons and other Yamahas only power 6 or 8 ohm loads. I'm not sure on the sub either, I've just always liked those.

I might get the Denon universal player soon - I'm dying to hear my SACD and DVD-A discs in their native surround. The best thing about that player is the bass management for both SACD and DVD-A - that's hard to find on nearly any player.

John,

It's Justin. And it was General Cinema in Mentor (Erie Commons)... There's a field there now. I might be getting a job at Great Lakes if Atlas decides to re-open that one (other side of Great Lakes Mall). Right now I'm at Loews at Richmond Mall... they have a couple unused JBLs just sitting up in the projection booth. 0:-)

Hope I'm not too late, don't give into the Bose hype. There is much better for the same price. Grab your favorite CD and go to as many stereo stores as you can and demo away.

Here's the truth about Bose:

Or just get on ANY audio forum you'll find the same.

I actually used to sell Bose, lol. We were not allowed to let customers listen to their own CD's on the 321 or Lifestyle system, only the special Bose demo disc could be used.
Here's my stuff:

PT

Amen brother, over priced, overrated. Can get the same for much less or better.

check this out. This sofa has an amp and four tactle transducers built into it. The transducers reciever low frequency information from a wireless transmitter/receiver also built into the couch, and shakes the couch creating the feeling of real world rumbles and pressure shocks. Very cool, and very expensive!

Geez! You can get some hellish subwoofers for that money. Such as this Velodyne, which has a 2500W RMS amp, both a 12" and an 18" driver, weighs 385 pounds, and can play down to 15Hz. I want one:

Anyone ever heard these? I'd love to give them a listen:
