I'm so excited
Now that spending on the Mustang is at a temporary hiatus, I'm putting some $ into my home. Specifically, a BOSE 3-2-1 GS Series II, a 42" Plasma -?Sony Wega?- and some really cool leather chairs that look like a cross between a LazyBoy and movie theater seats!
Anyone else dig this stuff but me?
Time to start buying DVD's!

That sounds awesome John! I love that stuff, but other things have taken priority so I havent had the chance to get into it more.

When we built our condo 3+ years ago, I had a family room in the basement 16X25 that I hade designed as a home theater. The interior walls has sound insulation and i had sound baffles put in the ceiling under the drywall both to help acoustics and to keep the sound from blasting the upstairs. All the walls and ceiling were wires along with ouside speakers to the deck.
I bought a Pioneer 56" HDTV in a gloss piano black cabinet with a matching component cabinet. My theatre control is a Marantz [I forget the model] alond with the Pioneer DVD. I have digital cable so reception on the premuin channels is great.
We since moved out of the condo but one of the reuirements was that i found a house that was theater ready which it is. They even had the one wall painted black so the TV, etc blends right in. Room is a little smaller so the sound is great.
I decorated the walls with old movie posters and photos form movie press kits; mostly aviation and old war movies.

That sounds sweet Ed! My problem is that I've got a Florida home, and down here there's rarely a home with a family room, never a basement, and always a lack of space. This has to be done in my living room which is also (typically) right in the center of the home (open floor plan).
My wife loves going to the movies, I hate not being able to pause it to go to the bathroom, and $12 for popcorn and a soda's really irritaging. Now I'll be able to sit at home, drink a beer, talk whenever I want and be comefortable!

After I bought my Technic DD5.1 and DTS reciever and rounding it out with my PSB Alphas and Definitive Tech Sub-woofer, I was gonna get me a projection LCD or DLP TV...but I never followed through. Still watching my movies with great surround on my old 27" Trinitron.
Ugh...still gonna upgrade the boob tube one day. I take solace driving the 'stang though.

Heh... You say "home theatre" and I say "bring pieces of a theatre home"
When I "grow up" and get my own house, I'll use these... 4 8" surround w/1" tweeters, 4 15" 'behind screen' center channel woofers, 1 1" 'behind screen' center channel tweeter w/ 10x30" cone (not all are pictured)

Where'd you steal that stuff from Jason?
Looks cool, I wish I had room for that kind of stuff. My plasma and bose speakers won't take up any more room than a couple of pictures on a wall!
Maybe I should change my name to BOSE-O.C.D.?
I got it from the theatre I worked at previously that closed. They were just going to toss the stuff so I snagged some to see if I could use it. The surround speakers sound great. All I need for those is a receiver.
Hope I'm not too late, don't give into the Bose hype. There is much better for the same price. Grab your favorite CD and go to as many stereo stores as you can and demo away.
Here's the truth about Bose:

Or just get on ANY audio forum you'll find the same.
I actually used to sell Bose, lol. We were not allowed to let customers listen to their own CD's on the 321 or Lifestyle system, only the special Bose demo disc could be used.

My current home theater is a freaking joke.
We bought this house assembeled- the other house was wired for surround.
My speakers are scattered about the floor :bang: . Not a really good effect.
I have a Phillips six speaker surround.

Earlier this year, my wife and I purchased a 45" Sharp LCD for above our family room fireplace. Man is it sweet!
I have a Sony 7.1 surround amp unit wired to Polk speakers all the way around and channeling Sony head units. When folks see the TVB for the first time, I demo either the intro battle sequence of Gladiator or my personal fave, the intro sequence of Star Wars Ep4. Either one just blows them away. When we get to decorating the room, a theater style sofa is definitely in the offing.
Good luck everyone with your installs, etc.!

We are building a 2400 square foot basement this winter/spring and will move the house on top of it. Home theater room is part of the plan. We already have a commercial popcorn machine and post mix soda fountain for it. The plans have been modified to allow for a 1 car garage ( Guess what goes there
).

Yeah John I'm with ya
I have a HD Phillips 55" RPTV, Panasonic progressive-scan DVD player, Pioneer 5.1 DD (no DTS) receiver, and HD capable cable box (it's great watching LOST, The Bucs and CSI in HD - hopefully by next February my provider will carry ESPN2HD so I can watch NHRA drag racing in HD). My next upgrade will be to a 6.1 receiver that will do both DD-EX DTS-ES and I'll put a rear center channel between the 2 rear channels I have now. The center speaker sits on top of the TV. I don't have a sub-woofer, but my front mains have 15" woofers in each one and will definitely rattle the foundation with some movies

I just revamped everything 2 weekends ago. Finally took the plunge and got a Sony Bravia 40" LCD HD ready and a Sony 7.1 AV receiver. It is powering my Cerwin Vega towers and Polk fronts and center.
I'm loving it, it's awesome!
