This is interesting, IIRC the Navy had plans to use a biomass derived fuel for its ships before it was scrapped - however somebody some time ago (not here as I recall) made the observation that you might want to start worrying about peak oil when the military starts investing in alternative fuels since they tend to prognosticate a few more years down the road than your average industry insider.
