Im not gonna lie that looks pretty **** nice, modern muscle car with a lil flare. But ill only consider putting one in my garage if the do something with the interior, take care of the weight problem, and put some real performance into that thing

i agree with pete i call bs on 550. i think it will all depend on what information they have about the gt500 up untill a couple of months before its released. 585 to 610 is a safe bet but i dont think it will be enough.

Keep in mind too, its a bigger engine than the 5.4,
and what did Ford do when it needed more power? Turned up the dial.
And what did aftermarket people do to it? Added a pulley...

I wouldn't underestimate it.
I don't think Ford is either

Well GM's strategy so far has been to offer a higher level of content (the ZL1 will be the equivalent of a PP GT500) with a higher price. Ultimately a loaded GT500 (all the boxes checked off) will be more expensive.

They do the same thing with the V6 and SS, the Camaro offers more standard equipment at a higher price point but when fully optioned out compared to a fully optioned out V6 or GT Mustang it comes in cheaper.

Ford definitely will need to improve the 2013 model year GT500 in response to the ZL1. Here's my guess based on non-insider information pulled out of my ****

I think Ford has more wiggle room to increase HP in the GT500 than GM does in the LSA given the pistons in the GM motor. It's a question of how far the Ford engineers can convince management to go on HP. I say advantage to Ford on HP even though Ford has the smaller CID

On the other hand, while total weight advantage resides with the GT500 the ZL1 will have better weight distribution even after adding a S/C upfront. Plus Ford has nothing comparable to the magnetic ride suspension to toss onto the GT500. Matching traction with the ZL1 will probably be the biggest hurdle GT500 engineers may have to over come. I think advantage goes to GM on traction to the point it may overcome the weight difference between the cars. Perhaps a watts link and relocated shocks for wider rubber will appear on the 2013 GT500 to narrow the disadvantage to GM.

Braking is something Ford can upgrade to ZL1 levels and with the GT500's lighter weight, hopefully exceed. Just source the appropriate Brembo/Baer/Stillen brake system and implement.

Of course Ford will have to keep the GT500 cost competative so since GM isn't saying what the LT1 will cost it's all up in the air as to what Ford may be willing to upgrade and at what $$ price.

Man a Watts Link would be a nice upgrade for the 2013 cars, but I suppose at that point its a little late seeing as how the next gen car is supposed to be in as a 2014 model.

The panhard rod gets the job done, but can be unerving to the IRS types and a Watts Link would go a long way toward quelling that issue.

While I'm under no impression there will be no ADM's I don't quite think It'll start that high. The Base Camaro V6 Starts in the Low 20's and Base CTS in low 30's. CTS-V's Start at 63K So I'm guessing it will be more than a few thousand lower than the Caddy. Sure it's a decked out Camaro but the CTS-V is too and more expensive to boot with pretty much the same stuff the ZL1 has. I'm gunna guestimate mid 50's starting based on that alone. I Could be wrong of course, but like I said that's my guess.

I can't wait to see what numbers it puts downacross the board. Under the skin it's a little more than just a SS with a supercharger on it. Modified suspension tweaks, relocating alot of bits, electronic power steering, magnetic shocks, even better brakes. If the CTS-V is any indication, this thing will move, turn, and stop on par with anything in it's class.....for now. The next GT500 might have a zillion hp and weigh 1000lbs less but I think the current one is in for a nice fight.

Heh, I was checking out the ZL1 thread over at C5 (which was amazingly civil) and some of the Camaro guys are wishing (well pretty much believing) for it come in under the GT500 - in a few reads as low as 43k - with the attitude that the ZL1 will be a price/performance game changer.

I dont believe it either, why would GM miss out on a chance to really make some cash on the Camaro like Ford does with the GT500.

Fully loaded, an SS coupe comes in at just over 47k (jeez that rascal got expensive with very few options) I couldn't see GM offering the ZL1 under or at the price of a fully loaded SS - on a side note, I had read continually that the Camaro could be had fully loaded under the price of a fully loaded GT, I went to Ford and clicked off every option box I could and could only get to around 44k for everything.
