Yet another ghetto fix - wheelcover this time!
I've been having problems with my right rear tire for a while - it would lose about 4-5psi per month, relative to the others. I'm heading to Florida in it Sunday (2500 mile round trip), and decided to get it checked out today.
So I went to Sam's (not the best place, but decent work for a good price), and sat for 2-1/2 hours while the fixed it. Turns out, a wire was stuck in it, so they plugged the hole and sent me on my way, for free. Cool.
I got home and went around the car to get the groceries out, but instead, a four-letter word escaped my mouth. The wheelcover was somewhere between my apartment and Sam's, a 4 mile drive in city streets. Dangit!
I drove back to Sam's with a friend in the car to help me look, and let them know what happened. They said if I don't find it, they'll buy a new one. Cool. I searched in the car and on my bike, riding slowly, and never saw it.
I did, however, find a decent cover from a Ford Crown Victoria, which wouldn't look too awful bad. So I threw it in my backpack and rode home, then put it on. It's certainly better than an ugly black steel wheel, but it's not perfect.
After looking around online, I finally found my wheelcover. I'll check one place in town first, then order that if I can't find it here. But I'll be rollin' with the Vickie rim for now - Florida will be jealous!

Hey, if you want, I can send you an old wire wheelcover from an '80's Oldsmobile - I picked it up, too! I found at least ten different covers while riding around.

just for kicksI only brought back two, the Crown Vic cover and one from an '80's Cutlass or something. Only one other would have been decent...the rest were generic Nissan, Honda, and Toyota plastic things. Except for one, which was just nasty...it looked kinda like a plastic version of this, but with the main spokes wider and no smaller ones:

No joke. It was nasty...but for a second, I thought about taking it, just for kicks.
Here's the other one I picked up. Again, I thought, "Hey, it'll be better than a black wheel."
good point. heck, ya culd sell all and do the ghetto-est thing: black wheels spraypainted silver :P
with all the hubcaps we've lost on the mazdas, we debated s=doing that for a while :P as soon as i find our stash of paint we also find a set that just wont fall off lol

I just got done washing the car (got salt on it this morning, stupid snow), it looks a little better now everything's clean. I really doubt most people would even notice.

I know where there is a Crown Vic with 4 good wheel covers on it that just sits. I'm sure Kim will never notice, she never drives it anyway.
BTW, good luck on the trip. If you're going anywhere near Pensacola, be sure to look up Bobby's uncle.
