Never underestimate your competition (Sun Tzu).
The Hyundai Tau V8 is already and impressive motor, what with 385 ponies out of 4.6 liters worth of holes. Add another .4 liters, DI plumbing, a crackling 11.5 CR spitting out 429hp (429? Coincidence? I think not...) in the already capable Genesis Coupe chassis, well, they'd have to botch things up pretty badly to make this thing suck.
Of course, if Hyundai sprouts a pair of big ones and does produce this, will that force Nissan and/or Toyota to follow suite? Nissan could just as readily make a 560Z with pretty much parts shelf engineering and some frame/body work up front. Toyota has been dithering for eons about a new Supra, maybe this and a desire to escape the "Beige Brand" epithet would get them off the pot too.

Oh yeah, the interior of the Genesis makes me want to vomit. Just no value here. I don't see it I guess.

The Nissan could fly but I don't see it happening. Why V8 when you have a TT Inline 6 or TT V6 that spanks.

THIS....will be interesting if this goes in the coupe. i have respect for the Hyundai Genesis already in it's V6 form...this will further boost my respect...we saw what competition from Chevrolet and the Camaro did (bringing the 5.0 back...even though it was already planned) so i say let them make their 5.0...it'll inspire Ford to further improve on the Coyote 5.0.

New Mustang is due in 2014, so I'm pretty sure Ford will increase horsepower by then.
New Genesis coupe is probably due by the same time. So I don't think Hyundai has won any wars.
By the way, if I ever buy an import - I would definitely buy Hyundai / Kia.

Hyundai 5.0? Wow...times are changing

Wow...don't get me wrong here...I'm a mustang guy through and through....not trying to ruffle any feathers here... but it's amazing how the HP wars have really changed things in the last few years.
Who ever would have guessed that the company that made "The Pony" (absolute worst car they ever made) would turn around and start making high quality products.
To challenge the legendary Mustang...that takes a lot of *****. The 5.0 Mustang GT is a far superior car to the Genesis coupe (even if it does get the 5.0) but going after an icon such as the 5.0 can only do one thing-force Ford to do more and that means we all benefit if Ford ups the HP on the 5.0.
It's just exciting to be a driving enthusiast and car fan right now because the market and competition only means one thing-car companies have to produce better products and improvements every year to stay ahead and that is great for us as consumers.

I totally agree corvettedreamin...the Mustang is so **** sexy with amazing lines and the Genesis is not. I love my 2006 GT and cannot wait to order my 2011 GT this summer. I'm just saying that it's great to see other car companies putting out decent competitive product because this totally changes the auto industry. I'm sure Ford would not sit quietly and let Hyundai claim top HP with a 5.0. My guess(and I do not claim at all to be an expert) would be that Ford would follow with an increase of HP on the 5.0 to top the Hyundai and then we all benefit.
dude. sweet.
The entire premise of the Hyundai is 180-degrees opposite that of a Mustang, so it doesn't matter what horsepower or displacement they come up with. The Mustang is all about heritage (racing, good times, US & apple pie, etc), whereas the Hyundai is in the early stages of trying to built its heritage.
In other words the Hyundai's most salient aspect is its LACK of any heritage here in the US.
Where was Hyundai when the Z-28 Camaro was battling on the racetrack against the Boss 302? Nowhere, mon frere. (George Carlin quote)

I almost bought a Genesis Coupe. After pricing it out though and knowing this new V6 was coming to the Mustang...I realized that to get the same car from Hyundai, it was actually MORE expensive. Why would I pay more for a Hyundai when I could get a Mustang which is just such a better looking car?
I agree double e but every car manufacturer has had a bumpy ride at some point. Hyundai may not have the heritage etc. of the mustang but they are trying hard. Ford turned out some ****ty products for a while but they have really stepped up to the plate lately. Their interiors are almost Audi grade now.
You do make a good point though.

I think we should also keep in mind that Ford has just begun to scratch the surface with the new 5.0. I'm sure this new motor will see updates and upgrades more often than the 4.6 did. Look at how much Ford has done for 2011 over 2010, i'm sure to keep people interested they will make small tweaks every year. Chevy has been doing it for years on the Vette now Ford is finally doing it.
