Watch out Mustang, theres a new 5.0 coming
all of the big three had better step it up. you give people more options it will cost market share. i like the 5.0 genesis. 429hp. if it weighs less it will rule before the after market add ons. there will be little aftermarket support for a 5 liter DI hyundai.
Hyundai has come a long way these past few years. And the Genesis sedan has been around some time in other countries and has sold well. The coupe for that matter, is their first effort on a performance car. It wants to fit in between the tuner cars we have today, Mustang included, and the general enthusiasts with a tight budget. Well, not so tight budget, since it starts almost in the same base price as the Mustang. I'd prefer a Mustang over it, but I would not discard it entirely, as being one of the few affordable RWD cars in production today. And the styling has been growing in me, much like the '10 Mustang did.
I'm sorry, but a Hyundai 5.0 has MEEE TOOO written all over it. They could, at the very least, make it a 5.1 or a 4.9... anything to differentiate themselves. They've been watching China make cheap knock-offs for so long that they've decided to join in.
Maybe they can rename the genesis coupe the Filly, and put a horse logo on it. Then they can paint it a nice shade of Grasper Blue.

LOL...as a guy, I think it's funny because married or not, we always admire beautiful women when we see them ( you are lying to youself if you say otherwise
) but if you admire a non mustang product it's considered taboo.
Nice honest opinion. I will admit too that I like the Genesis but I did not want to get flamed for it. People are very touchy around here if you like anything but a Mustang

I've owned my fair share of cars and driven lots more, and being a graduated auto Technician I don't bias my opinions... much....
As for the admiring beautiful women , be sure to do it when your mate is not looking, or else you'll get this
Merged two threads from the 2010+ section into this one in the 'General Vehicle Discussion' section, but will leave a link for a couple of days . . .

It will be interesting to see if Hyundai will continue to sell the Genesis in the U.S. market 40% cheaper than in their closed home market in S. Korea? To me, that's predatory competition. I wonder how well Hyundai would do in the U.S. market if they charged actual prices for their cars (instead of using the Korean consumer to significantly subsize the car's sale price in the U.S.).
Ford Mustang competes in an open market, the fair way. Wards Auto
Somebody mentioned Hyundai may be #1 in sales some day. If they do, it won't be because they had to face much external competition in their home market. Gouge your home market consumers so you can sell cheaper overseas and still make a profit. I'm real impressed ...not.

I don't see anything bad if they want to manufacture vehicles wherever is cheaper; everybody's doing that.
I mean, isn't Ford manufacturing Fusion (and will be manufacturing Fiesta) in Mexico for the same reason?

Good for them.
The Genesis was supposed to be the "Mustang Killer" when it was released. Hyundai has to up their game if they want to be considered a serious contender. I welcome the competition.
...It's gonna be a slaughter vs the 3.7 v6 and 5.0.

Genesis Coupe is not as fast as Mustang, but it did win last comparison test.

I would expect a V6 turbo before a V-8 shows up in the Genesis Coupe. A turbo V-6 would offer high fuel economy and similar performance to a V-8. I think Hyundai would have use a SLA front suspension to make the V-8 fit so that would drive up costs. I could see the 2.0 turbo (274 HP) as the base engine and a 3.5 turbo with over 400 HP as the upgrade.

if anyone was curious...i read someones interesting post on direct injection.

As stated before, the Genesis coupe wasn't designed to fit the 4.6 V8 from it's inception, but that doesn't mean it can't be done. A major redesign of the front structure would be required, and I doubt that will happen soon. If it sells well, maybe we can see a V8 coupe in it's redesign. Or the turbo v6 route can work too, at least in the current car, it can be done.
There's a tuner shop here that's currently working on a single turbo kit for them, and they already have an upgrade package for the 4 cyl to equal or exceed the EVO X's output. It's actually the same basic engine, just with different intake and exhaust/turbo.
To me, the Genesis coupe is more of a Supra take two than a Mustang fighter. Motor Trend quoted it as "the return of the Supra without the price shock."
