Nope, think South America exclusively. And I'll give another hint since I don't want to drag this on and tick off the home team here.....

Nailed it sir, the car is indeed a first gen Ford Corcel GT produced in a plant previously owned by Renault. The Corcel was effectively a Ford-i-fied Renault 12, although the car benefited greatly from the transformation particularly in terms of styling. Interesting tidbit, the Renault roots meant that this was one of Ford's first fwd cars.
