My new daily driver

Well, new to me

It's a 330i M Sport Auto (approx 231 bhp / 220lb/ft)

It replaces my trusty old 520i SE Touring

Very cool. I was looking at finding one before I got my Civic. But that Estate has so much rooooom! Now I'm thinking if going TDi, I need that kind of fuel mileage with as much commuting as I do. I vow to not own a Prius.

Might I suggest a 335d.

Very good fuel mileage, if not quite in the Prius level, yet posting track numbers nearing the fast 335i with daily real world performance feel that probably feels stronger due to its 400+ lb/ft of torques way down deep in the rpm range.

Pretty much every review, especially personal ones, have pretty much raved over the car. A unexpected (diesel?!) hidden gem in the performance world, IMHO.

I would have gone for a 330d myself, but too many tales of blown turbos at 100k miles put me off. Plus they are more expensive to buy second hand, and diesel is almost 10p/litre more expensive than unleaded here in the UK, so long term running costs should be similar.

But the 3 litre straight six petrol does sound sweeeeet

One 335 in the garage is enough for me right now! Hehe.
I love the 335d though. Might be a good replacement for our 335i. But I need in the neighborhood of 45mpg or better if it is all still feasible for a low price. I'm already at 33mpg or so in the civic but the 93 octane prices have me wanting to go diesel so I'm not fueling up as much. This from a guy that used to drive only full size trucks.

I say listen to rhumb on this one. He definitely knows what he's talking about.

I had a 335d as a loaner and I couldn't break 34mpg on the highway. It's definitely geared more towards performance. The new f30 328i can get those numbers now. If efficiency is the main concern you can't beat the tdi for resale, efficiency, price of entry. I bought my wife a 328 bc she drives 25k mi a year and turbos suck when your buying and not leasing. Have you seen the price on turbo replacements for the n54? 09<335i. ($6k!!).

Congrats on the e46 op!
