Max weight on ignition

Ive heard that you can damage Ur ignition by having to much weight on your keys when they are inserted. Has anyone else heard this. And if you have do you know if it's true?

Really!? Its easy!

Take the total weight of the keys in grams and divide by number of keys. Take that number and then divide by number of key holding links. Now multiply by the total length of the largest key. Then subtract the angle at witch the lowest hanging key is from the ignition switch.

If your number is less than 23.467 then your ok.
If your higher then you might double check your math. If still higher you need to remove keys.

Some one should sticky this post so people wont ask again!

Almost forgot. Make sure to place the cars key in the middle key ring for proper weight distribution

I just can't believe this issue is so big, that you heard about it from others.

Unless you're a janitor or a prison guard from a 1970's movie I think you'll be alright.

As many years that I've worked at dealerships, it is still an issue. Especially with theft deterrent systems in the ignition cylinders. But yeah this thread is pretty funny.

Tough crowd again. Do you know how many people have asked me this same question when they see/hold my keys? And Ive had people tell me their ignition cylinders broke b/c of their heavy set. Ive never had a problem but its obviously been an issue on some older cars/trucks so its not a ridiculous question.
