Why posers, why?

So today at work we got a dodge challenger and I drove it out to the shop we get all our safety checks done at. As I was walking up to it I was thinking "this might be fun, I've driven the boss's SRT up the street, but never really driven one on the road." then as I get closer I see that its a hemi. So I'm pretty excited to drive it. Then I get around behind it to put a dealer plate on it, and what do I see? A little, single V6 exhaust.

Really? Why? Why put hemi badges on a v6 challenger? Or GT badges on a v6 mustang, or SS on a v6 Camaro. I just don't get it.

Anyway, just wanted to rant.

Could it not be a Hemi V6? Hemi<>GT, Hemi=Hemispherical combustion chamber.

Of which, not even the current Hemis are. So... the Hemis are actually posing, when you get down to it.

To further the point, yes, the current V6's could be considered Hemis if the current V8 'Hemi's are. The V8 Hemis are really REALLY not Hemispherical at all.

/just a badge. Whatevs, man.

My Mustang Pony V6 may have GT front and rear clips. But, I make no bones about it. It's a V6.

The one on the hood is even crooked. Does the owner even know the difference? Prolly not if he chose a V6 Challenger out of all of the muscly options. I test drove one and my base, stock V6 Mustang at the time would've beat that POS easy.

I had a Charger with the V6... "technically", from a design standpoint, the V6 is more of a "hemi" design than the "Hemi" is!

FWIW, even the Dodge owners hate it when someone upbadges their car. Any car!

The owner wants it to " look like more than it is " for the same reason most people put an after market exhaust systems on.....so it " sounds like more than it is "..
And a % of the population doesn't know any better and will be fooled.

So according to you putting an exhaust is considererd being a poser? That Is total I can see maybe for a Honda but for a the newer mustangs GTs it does not sound like a 400HP car at all.

I'm proud to own a mustang and don't really care that it's a V6. I admit I love the sound of the V8 with a stock exhaust, and even more with an aftermarket exhaust - and will eventually upgrade to a V8 in due time. But IMO, us V6 owners put on an after market exhaust so it can sound its best, not because we want it to sound more than it is. Albeit the V6 has less torque, but we've still got the 300+ hp on the V6 which is equivalent to previous gen GTs.

I'm with you on people putting cobra badges or 5.0 badges etc. to represent something that their car is not - but that's entirely different from installing an after market part to improve a vehicle's performance. Plus, hearing an aftermarket exhaust is just an indicator that a car isn't stock, which means this driver cares about his ride. I imagine that should raise some level of respect from most car enthusiasts.

Must have hit a nerve with the " exhaust " comment, didn't mean to hurt anybody's feelings.
I just get a kick out of the fact that a " louder exhaust " is almost the first mod 90 % + do to their rides.
Also notice that cars with " real hp " don't run loud exhaust systems, wonder why that is ???

Yea that's why I don't wear ear plugs when I go to see NHRA dragsters run the 1/4..... Or why I haven't seen a single car with "serious hp" at the track without out open headers. Hmmmmm lmao

Is this your attempt at an " apple & orange " comparison ? ( street vs race exhaust system ) You either missed or don't understand the point I was making.
By the way, what exhaust system do you run ?
Loud ?
Want people to notice your ride ?

you must have been kicked between the legs too many times.

ever think it's the first mod because it is one of the least expensive ones and something you can easily do yourself??

didn't think most race cars had exhausts...

and actually, my bassani exhaust right now is equivalent to the sound of no exhaust. so in retrospect, the stock muffler really just tones down the natural sound, so my after market exhaust is just staying true.

to be honest, when you made the comment about "real hp" cars, my first thought was race car - that's a "real hp" car, is it not?

Not sure why you're crankin' on this so hard...

Its not necessarily about decibels. A lot of people want a different tone vs the factory nasal sounding axle backs. And most complain that the factory exhaust is just a tad too quiet to hear their muscle car - hence the sound tube staring in '10.

I don't want a super loud exhaust - which is why I never changed to the GT500 KR's (Plus the ridiculous $600 price for the M-5230-S). But the Bullitt factory exhaust is a tad quiet. However, the tone is PERFECT so I'm not screwin' with it.

But each their own. Wanting a better tone has nothing to do with a V6 owner wanting to pose as a V8 owner.

Haha I have Flowmaster axelbacks and cams. I got my car and have done what I've done to it solely because it's what I like. Couldn't care less about what anyone else thinks. I don't think many people put an exhaust on their car so that people think it has more power than it does. But it's ok, some people like for their 700hp GT500 to sound like a Prius. Lol

Well, I suppose I should step in here 'cuz I started this thread.

Exhaust is totally different. I didn't say anything about exhaust, my point specifically was about people 'up-badgeing' their cars. (And on that note, I know that none of the current dodge products are really "HEMI"s, the point is that the owner put badges on his car to make it look like a higher performance model than it really was).

The exhaust argument some are making is understandable on a non-performance car, ie putting loud pipes on a grocery getter honda, but on a 300+ hp muscle car putting loud exhaust on it doesn't "make it sound like something it's not" IMO.

Anyhowwww.... in happy news, my boss had me take all the hemi badges off the car, so it's no longer being a poser! And in other random Challenger news, the boss is (trying to) selling his 6xx original mile Furious Fuchsia SRT8 this week.
