A honest question to the manual tranny fanatics

lol.. were there any problems with it? i mean i guess maybe 70's tech wasnt ready for computer controled trannies and whatnot,. but it still seems like a good idea to me...
wonder why no one has thought of it yer

I think the main issue was illustrated by what I did . . . grabbing the shiftknob was the equivalent of pushing in the clutch. You can see how that would be a problem if someone (read: your 5 yr old son) tried to "help" you shift while in traffic.

i guess i enjoy a sore left leg when i get to work. but i guess one of the things for me is how much simpler the standard manual is. and i dont know, its just the feel and the difference of it. and the ability to say to people "sure you can take it for a spin"...... a moment later "oh thats right, you dont know how to drive stick.. oops"

I made this video (not racing just driving down the raing street) to show how my car keeps me in the gear it wants. LOL!
you can hear the shift and see more toward the end.

i didnt get a chance to hear it with sound. were you shifting gears, or was that the transmission doing all the work for you?

I started in 4th, 3rd, 4th, then at one time 3rd to 2nd to 1st at about 40 MPH. The car went only down to 2nd.
Then I shifted to 3rd then I went 2nd to 1st again and Christine bumped me to stay in 2nd.
Near the end.... while slowing to a stop I shifted 3rd then 2nd, at about 2700rpm I went down to 1st, and it bumped me to stay in 2nd until I was a little lower in RPM, then I went to first.
At the last second of the video I up shifted to 2nd to take a corner.
It is fun to drive and play around with.
I had never used it when I first got the car. Then I realized my $1,200.00 brakes and rotors were done and while I was waiting for my appointment was forced to use the manual to save what little was left of them.
I want to sell this car.. I want a FORD500. I have 3 expired EBAY listings on it and a BMW forum listing that had the same car for $4000.00 less
sorry for the hijacking at the end.

I am as well waiting to see what happens next with the TT...if they really would like to make a TT-S (3.2L 300 hp) or even better a TT-RS (3.2L 350 hp), I will think about getting one...
I love those DSG trannies, they are the best of the best !

A TT-S Quattro DSG would do it for me.
Strangely, the Audi-USA site has no TT on it at all, though they already have the R8 which won't be available here for at least another year. I've heard the TT is supposed to show up here in early 07, but who knows for sure...

From 'Inside Line': "The TT-S will have similiar hardware as the company's new S3 hatch -- that is, 265 hp from its turbocharged 2.0-liter four -- though the TT could get additional horsepower by way of engine tweaks. The TT-RS won't get the 3.6-liter V6, as many had speculated. Instead, it'll reportedly get a turbo'd version of the North American Jetta's 2.5-liter five-cylinder, fitted with an identical cylinder head configuration as the company's 5.2-liter V10, and producing in the neighborhood of 365 hp."

Yes, I'd love a TT-S too or hopefully, if they keep the price reasonable, even a TT-RS.
That's strange that Audi has no TT on its US website. I wonder if it is because they already stopped selling the last generation car around here...
