Max NSX

Honda’s flagship NSX-R sports car gets a race car treatment and a price tag to match. Due to the considerable changes to this year’s Japan Grand Touring Championship GT-500 NSX race car, Honda had to build five homologation NSX-R GT road cars to satisfy rules set by the governing body.

A cool ¥50 million ($466,600) is the price tag for this full carbon fiber-bodied road car, which features longer front and rear fascias and an F1-style scoop to direct air to the mid-mounted V6 engine. Production starts in August and, sorry, all five cars are already spoken for.

Why did I just think of that line from an LL Cool J song, "My head is like a shark's fin."? They could have at least made the scoop look good.

Also, top-mounted scoop on a mid-engine car != rice

I don't consider it rice if it's:

1) functional

and

2) OEM

Don't mistake lack of cylinders for lack of go-power. Witness the Jaguar XJ220, at the time of its introduction the fastest production car on Earth. What drove it past 220mph? A twin-turbo, 3.5L V6

Yeah, don't dismiss cars based on cylinder count, alot of fast cars came with less than 8 cylinders.

But in this case you're right, the NSX hasn't really been fast enough to warrant it's pricetag since about 1995(at the latest). I highly doubt this car will come close to justifying it's ridiculous pricetag.

NSX isn't about speed, it's about balance. I've heard many people say that it's the most perfectly balanced car they've driven. The weight distribution, suspension setup, brakes, seating, everything is balanced pretty much exactly how it should be. It doesn't excel in any one area, but it's pretty dang good in all of them.

Yes, I've been hearing that for more than a decade, and I still call horse puckey on it. I could live with that line if it wasn't for the fact we're talking about a mid-engine $90k sports car. Honda's problem is that every other sports car has gotten better over the past decade and the NSX has gotten slower. (Relative to the competition I mean)

Nah, the NSX is the biggest rip-off in the sports car market. Consider what you can buy for the same money, the NSX is for people that think that Honda is the end-all be-all of automobiles.
