Raced Surfn last night
SurfnSoCal and I were heading to a friends party last night (around 10:45pm) and it was at a house in the Carmel/Sorrento Valley area of SD for those of you that know the area, anyway their is a good stretch of road that is just a tad bit longer than a quarter mile from stop light to stop light on a perfectly straight flat piece of two lane road in each direction with a center divide. We pulled off to the side to let the two cars behind us go by and get out of sight and then lined up. I had two friends in my car and he was alone and because he had just reflashed his car back to the stock tune, I believe our cars are pretty much the same, actually he has a lower control arm, that I dont and I dont have mufflers and he has Bassannis, he also has 18s and some more meat in the back then I do.
The race....
sitting at the light, I turn traction control off and rev up my car, I smoke my tires for fun and to show boat a bit, as they are spinning I hear his tires start to squiell and my back end slides a little to the drivers side and the light changes and I immediately launch, I got a good jump on him off the line, as his tires continued to slip but he soon launched and caught right up but then slipped behind again and was on my drivers side door the whole way down. He said later that he missed second gear and thats why he dropped off. Anyway it was fun, no other cars came the whole time and in fact didnt see another car the rest of the drive, its pretty remote (I know it doesnt excuse it) and I figured it was a nice story to share.
Another short story....I took a NSX last weekend on PCH on the way to Huntington to meet up with Rabbitt and EatnOats, had same two friends in car, with a full ice chest in the trunk and he challenge me to a race (verbally), light changed had open road in front of us, a motorcycle behind us and I got the jump on him big time, by a full car length, would have kept it up except the moron on the motorcycle figured hed get in on it and shoot between the cars and hop in front of me so I had to shut it down, we got the next light and the dude driving the NSX could only say, "Man thats fast, and you have a car full of people." I said thanks and made my uturn to the beach.

I dont know, I think he meant that he didnt engage the clutch enough and couldnt get the gear shift quick enough, but I dont know, I didnt hear any grinding so I know he didnt do that. Hes a kid, still needs a bit more driving skills.
I dont believe I was poohpoohing anything, if you were refering to the comment I made about Surfns last race on the freeway with his friends I was just making a jab at him since we are friends, the post about the crash, was a warning to remember to be careful, which we were and I always am and I never forget how dangerous racing can be. But I also dont think everyone should run and hide in their rooms and refrain from living just to be safe all of the time. I admit I am not perfect and sometimes do something like this which may very well be really stupid. never the less it still happened and I am sharing the story, thank you though for reminding us again. I appreciate it. (NOT SARCASM)
No worries. Just didn't feel like searching for that thread. I just thought you were critical then and seem to be jumping in the saddle for this now.
Nice story, by the way. Besides, we all enjoy dangerous activities in some form or fashion (Scuba, Bungee jumping, sky-diving, athletic sports, etc.)
