IMPULSIVE MOVE!
Well, I've officially gone koo koo. I just walked into my local Pontiac dealership and placed a $1000 deposit for the new solstice. This car apparently is the hyped equivalent to the Mustang, too hot to get for 6 months (which is my wait time) but for $19,000 it is as amazing a deal as the stang I'm getting in 2 weeks!! Am I crazy?
Funny but I was looking at that car today online. It looks real nice. I am not a fan of GM but not a fan of Ford either. Looks like Pontiac is finally on to something. Although 2 seat sports cars are not near as popular as in the 80's and 90's. I don't know If I would take it over the mustang but it looks like another sweet ride for the money...
I went and test drove one of these just a week ago (customer that works for gm brought it in tryin to tell me it was better than my stang). Its not bad for a n/a 4 cylinder. But if you want an automatic, you are out of luck (manual only). Its about 1 full tick slower to 60 than the v6 mustang, and i dont know the 1/4 et on it yet.
It's a cool little car. About time Pontiac came out w/ something people actually want to buy. That'll surely outsell the GTO. I wouldn't want one myself, I'm at the point in my life that safety is becomming an issue w/ my car purchases. Car's a little girly for me, but I'm sure it'll be fun to drive.
I must say, for that price, I think that one heck of a car. I've see the car in person, along with the Saturn version, and thought, wow what a fun car. If you removed the badges, most would think that it is a much higher priced car.
Dont do it!!! Are you crazy, its a pontiac..it will fall apart in no time flat. Not to mention how butt ugly it looks. (have you seen pic with top up :notnice: ) Do yourself a BIG favour and canel the order, and then go upgrade too a GT vert...
On their website (photo gallary), they show mph at 55 and rpm at 3000. They discribe the engine as a 4cyl high reving engine. I personally would be worried that with serious (spirited) driving, it would come apart like a wet kite! As with several GM small performance engines, time will prolly prove me wrong though
Unless I was making really good $$ I would not and could not own two nice cars. I don't know what some of you do for a living but some of the responses here sound like "yeah no prob" I'll just set besides my Lexus and my jet ski in the garage and cruise it on the weekends. I know there are many people that are very wealthy and can well afford two nice cars but to me I have always looked at the mustang as the average working mans car (no offense) and this is a mustang site "isn't it?" Hey if you can well afford to blow an extra $20,000 another nice ride more power to ya! I could barely afford the Mustang V6 but I don't make much $$$. Lets just say I made some major mistakes in life...
It's biased opinions like that (tom), that make me want to
. How can you say that about ALL Pontiacs, yeah the older ones were more prone to breakdowns, but so were Ford's. I'm only getting so heated because for 1 I own both a Pontiac and Ford, and have to say they are both quality wise just as good, so before you go pretensing about how Pontiacs are crappy, blah blah blah, please do some research, they all aren't as bad as you think.

Since you obviously doesn't have to choose between the two, I say - COOL!
I mean, as long as you have the Stang too, why not have a little plaything like that along with it? But I'd prolly go for the new Miata myself.
