For some reason, German cars in the USA are much less reliable than those in Europe.
My Golf has 190,000 km (about 115,000 miles) on the odometer and it still runs so strong. I get the feeling that it's in a much better shape than my 6 years newer with less 50,000 miles on the odometer Fusion.

The styling was a bit American style flash and glitz but not overly gaudy. Seats were great as I recall, rather firm and narrow Recaros if I'm not confusing things because I was rather surprised by how firm and narrow they were given the American penchant for large plush seats for their large, plush butts.
Six speed stick was also a pleasant shocker, especially in a large luxury Cadillac station wagon, I mean, how cool is that! The CTS-V wagon simply obliterates about a dozen American/Cadillac luxury car preconceptions in one fell swoop. Of course, such a excellent and interesting car will be ignored and/or misunderstood by the general public while they snap up the typically dreariness/SUVs.

Considering the boats that Detroit was building during that time (late 1970s), this Mercedes was probably much less boring than Mercurys and Buicks and Oldsmobiles from that time (not to mention much more economical).
