It's conspiracy. GM's not losing money, but the media likes the Mustang better than the Camaro so it reports unfavorable GM numbers. You see every tenth that 2011 Mustang 5.0 beats a 2010 Camaro SS by is worth $1.0 billion to the press.

Boy that's a lot of losses:

General Motors Co. says it lost $4.3 billion in the last half of 2009. GM last reported earnings in November, when it said it lost $1.2 billion in the third quarter. That was before the company completed the fresh-start process. It lost $6 billion in the first three months of 2009 before its stay in Chapter 11. It lost $31 billion in 2008.
