May be. But Charger reality was not even close to Charger concept.

While it's true the initial Charger concept was an alternate fuel vehicle but still with a lot of horsepower, disregarding the power train, none of the styling made it to production.

 

True. I totally agree with that. I loved the original Charger concept back in '99, but when the production version was released I was disgusted. At first, I thought,how can they have gone from a sexy-sleek looking design to a brick-inspired behemoth? All that has changed now and the car has actually grown on me, especially the SRT-8. I just hope that Dodge will not deviate so much from the concept Challenger's design...but ya never know?

 

Different kettle of fish entirely. The ONLY reason Dodge is introducing this car is as an answer to Ford's new "retro" pony car.

It would be ridiculous to show a full-on retro Challenger that looks this close to production ready, and then bait & switch some fugly box a year later. Besides, they already have lots of boxey sedan/wagons at DC. This car fills a gap in their lineup.

No, it's no coincidence that Dodge is showing us a retro Challenger: because new Stang sales are ON FIRE.

Plus, that Chicago Tribune article as much a says they're going to build it. Rest assured, they're GOING to build it.

True, but Charger went on sale 7 years after concept was introduced. Challenger will be introduced in early 2006 and it will be on sale in late 2008.

 

I don't think the original charger concept was a production intent concept. The 2004 Mustang GT concept was definitely a teaser to the production car. I will bet the Challenger concept will do the same.

 

YOu think they will offer an automatic? How many speeds? And in which models?

those wont be the production rims, theres zero clearance between those rims and the wells, stock cars never have that little clearance, same thing with ford, they always throw huge rims on concepts

 

i dunno man the charger srt8 has 20 inch wheels so who knows.

 

Here ya go guys, I enlarged the pics a little. Overall I'd say it's a good attempt from Dodge. This should force Ford to take a look at the Stang and up the anti by giving us more HP among other things. A little competition for the Mustang just might be what the doctor ordered!!!!

 

Like everything but the front end. something about the headlites. any, this would be cool if it was produced to look like the concept.

If it was posted in the forum then it wasn't an "official" spy photo from Autoweek. It was just some yahoo who probably stole it from Burningman's web site.

 

The more I look at these photos, the more I think I want one.
The retro look is what I like. Plop on the CDC shaker and
give it a hockey stick stripe.

 

Agreed, DC will produce this with some production adjustments. The Mustang needs some competition so we can finally ditch the buggy axle and get some other much needed upgrades. And possibly a '69 Fastback version similar to Kenny Brown's current rendering :worship:
