Does a SE Stang need to compete?
Ok,
I posted this in another topic, but never got an answer.
Does a SE Mustang need to compete with a Challenger and Camaro SS? Isn't that what the Cobra is for, how can a SE Mustang compete with something out of it's price range?
So far we have("~" means around):
Cobra - ~475hp at ~40K(based of previous price)
Challenger - 425hp at ~40K(based off the Charger SRT-8)
Camaro SS - ~400 hp at ~38K(just a guess, estimating that the Z28 can compete with a GT or a SE Mustang, this one will probably be the cheapest of the 3)
As you can tell there isn't enough info at this point to make a true/realistic comparison. However hoping that a SE Mustang that can compete with a Challenger or Camaro SS is almost unrealistic.
An SE Mustang has to be priced inbetween a GT and Cobra, and if the Cobra is priced with the competition then why are we expecting to beat competition without matching the price? Maybe I'm being negative, but I don't see something like that happening.
If I'm wrong call me out. It's just a topic for thought.

More like 28K for 400hp Z/28 if the clack is accurate so far and there is no reason to beleive that it isn't, witness the GTO, its 400hp in the mid 30's
As for an SS model, the word is that GM is messing around with a super-charged replacement for the LS-7, not so much to boost power, but rather develop a cheaper engine package approaching or exceeeding the LS-7's N/A capability. That'd be your 40k Camaro SS.
Unless Ford can find a way to put a decently priced 400hp engine in the stang then the dark days of 1993 to 2002 will have returned.

Seeing as how it's a Z28 that makes the whole scence more interesting.

Just remember ladys and gents. The Cobra is not going to be produced in to high of numbers

The Camaro is rumored to be a concept. Except nobody has actually seen it "in the flesh" and nobody knows if it's going production. Yet everyone talks like it's a sure thing.
To sum up:
2007 Mustang Cobra (or GT500 or whatever they're calling it these days) = REALITY
Challenger = CONCEPT (production is strong possiblility but not definite)
Camaro = VAPORWARE
