You can see the old one in it. Now why couldnt Pontiac do that to the GTO? Your right though John.....Ford got the retro look right with the Mustang. Im looking forward to seeing the actual Challenger.

Looks good, I like the car new and old but IMHO it never had the appeal of the Mustang and I don't feel any different now. Nice car though, it's how it SHOULD look. Now if they would just fix the GTO
Good looking car, and Daimler Chrysler has a very good record of faithful translations of concept cars into production models without losing much, if any, of the artistry in the process.
The horsepower wars are fun in some regards certainly, but worrisome in others. Will the insurance companies and legislators throw a skunk under the party tent as they did in the seventies? And a lot of that added power is getting ameliorated by ever increasing mass, never mind what all that deadweight does to overall vehicle dynamics and efficiencies.
But great to see these new challengers -- sorry, no pun really intended -- coming on to the scene, can be only great news for us performance car consumers.

If this car is put into production on that platform it will be HUGE. I mean really BIG. It'll be longer than the Magnum wagon(!), and weight around 4000lbs(!!!). Yes, it will have a excellent engine and will likely out drag a 'stang GT but it will be a very different car. Not direct competition in my opinion.

The Dodge boys are going to LOVE this thing, it will be to them exactly what the Mustang is for us. I say good for them, the world needs more beautiful muscle cars. Success of the car will be based on how well they control costs. Is there an estimated MSRP on this yet?

What I find intersting is they finally brought an MT into the LX platform (at least in concept form). It is about time.
However, I do think that Ford did a better design job of using hints of the old cars to come up with something retro-modern. The Challenger is too close to the original IMHO. But, I must admit, it still is a good looking car.

Considering they mentioned they shortened the wheelbase by 4 inches and it is 6 inches shorter than the original Challenger, it won't be as big as you think. Besides the GT500 is getting close to 4,000 lbs. (competition for the big Hemi version), so it might be pretty clsoe there.

Of course this is all blue sky theorizing but the fundamental point is that they're trying to mold an existing platform to a classic shape. The problem is that some of that platform's parts can't be changed (i.e. the firewall) so everything else has to be upsized to maintain the porportions of the original.
