Proud of Ford
Bush announced today that the government will loan GM and Chrysler $13.4 billion to keep the companies solvent for the next few months, at least. While Ford has asked for a line of credit to be used in an emergency, it didn't ask the taxpayers for any money, and it has indicated that it will make it through this economic crisis on its own steam.
I've been a Ford guy all my life (my dad drove nothing but Fords and I've owned three Mustangs and one Escort GT) and I couldn't be more proud. Obviously Ford isn't out of the woods and there will be a lot of work to do, but at least my company didn't have to go begging.
Somewhere, Henry is smiling.

Sad.
So... what we have here is a bunch of money being loaned to GM and Chrysler (but not Ford, and good on them for that! )... Which will do... what exactly?
I don't think that will allow Audrey Farber, Susan Underhill, Melanie Haber, or Betty Jo Bioloski (every one knew her as Nancy) to all of a sudden find that they can buy a car... will it?
Nope. I know I won't be rushing out to buy another car. I would if I got the bailout, sure, I need a little truck, a Ranger'd be nice. Again, *wrong place* to send the money. *You can't fix something that doesn't sell.* All this does is delay the currently inevitable a few months.
Whatevers. We're gonna be footing this either way. This sucks. I'm so very disappointed.
/Again, great for Ford, being a more responsible... or at least more solvent... company!

Yes, they do indeed. But if they fail, they'll still be required to re-pay the loan money in full. That being said, I've been very proud of Ford, from day 1
