2001 Celica GT-S: Revival

Didnt know exactly where i should post it, so mods feel free to move.
This is now my DD, and the mustang now has a spot with a soon to have car cover!!

Just thought i would Log and document me getting the Celica back to running shape. I purchased the car from a coworker that got transfered for a steal.
300 dollars.
He said the car had a bent valve, and it looks like it hasnt been washed in the 3 years he had it.
Here is what it looks like when I picked it up.

The car had algae growing on the rear trunk. lol, was nasty.
The ac was also not working.
I replaced number 4 coil, and a new set of plugs, the misfire from the "bent" valve went away.
82 dollars.

The ac held a vaccuum , but when i added freon, I seen the leak right away, condenser got hit with this.

So, i replaced the condenser today, and it blows cold as ice now.
After the ECU relearned the Idle, it ran like a dream.

The car has been lowered, and the rear cambers were changed so the tires wear evenly. Has a Ram air intake to. Drove it around town today and everything runs good.

Tommorow I will post pictures of everything cleaned up. It was dark and i couldnt get any that could do any justice. I think it will make a nice lil Daily driver, esp. for less than 500 bucks!!

Great project! I love seeing this type of thing. Sounds like you got a great deal and not a bad DD. The most important thing is that the Mustang isn't being thrashed in the Indiana snow!

Sounds good! Glad to hear it only needed minor work to get it running right!

How is it as a driver now? Auto or manual trans?

I've always wondered why I never see these cars in autocross or racing events... Do they just not handle well or have expensive parts? I've seen more of the previous generation of Celicas than these.

It is a 6speed manual, its a lil rough, but turns on a dime, very very responsive. The GT-S with the manual 6speed is a excellent car to autocross, but you need LOTS of practice with it.. the power band is above 5k and its finicky to stay in it. also if you downshift from 5 to 2nd(very easy to do) you will bend a valve..

Very good deal you got there! It's a Toyota I'd love to own, second only to a Supra TT.

Well, its running ok now, still has a misfire , but only when cold, I believe its from a faulty MAF sensor.. Got one on order. AC blows cold as Ice. I drove my Mustang this morning to work after driving the celica for a week... MAN what a different feeling of a car.. not a bad thing either way, 2 totally different cars. Celica feels more like a gocart that you have to redline everywhere to have power. Mustang feels more like a torque monster that you have to push through turns.

anywho, i should be getting a OEM intake soon if i can find one.. Not a fan of the rusted Ram air intake that is on it..

So changed the MAF sensor, didnt fix anything.. Car just got worse, to the point where it was not drivable. Was low on gas, so i ran some higher octane, and fuel injector cleaner, made world of differance.

it does a cold start now, idling high, then lowering.. I think it was a dirty fuel system, i may have to change some injectors if i want it to run smooth as butter.

I always liked this body, but it had no power. My ex had one, and we put a Kaminari kit on it, which really made it look great.

Get yourself some detailing supplies, clay and polish it, and the paint should come back. For $300, I'd drive it every day.
