NE Illinois shop for rear gears?
Hi all,
I put a similar post in gen chat but no replies so trying here. Anyone know of a competent shop to install 373 gears in my GT500? Victor Ford quoted me around $1100. While I think they'd do a fine job, the cost seems high.
Thx!

I'm near Libertyville. I've heard too many stories of rear gear installs gone bad. Thus the post for recommendations. The job doesnt sound that hard, just requires experience or I'd do it myself like everything else already done on the car. (The LT header install was a pita! LOL )

+1 on Mr. Norm's as I have heard nothing but great things about this shop. I will more than likely be using them for installing a new clutch before spring.

This may be a bit of a stretch for you, but there is a company in Warren, Michigan by the name of DTS that does nothing but differential work for any kind of application. They specialize in performance oriented applications. They can either sell you the parts you need or do everything for you. I had them convert my 2006 Chevy Silverado 4x4 from 3.42's to 4.10's 2 years ago. They quoted me $1,600.00 including the install for both differentials. It took a half a day of my time waiting for it while they worked on it, but it came back perfect and they only charged me $1200.00 because they did not need to replace some of the bearings as the originals were in such good shape. Keep in mind that you will have to take the car in to a dealership to have them flash your ECM to compensate for the new gear ratio so your speedometer will read correctly. As an alternative, there are programmers out there that you can buy that plug into your ALDL under the dash that allow you to change that info yourself. Good Luck!
