Yeah...they are called the "Ball Turret" I have their sitting on a rolling pallet for everyone to see. You must have to have been 100 lbs soaking wet to get in it.

not to many good pics around that I could find. He was a colorfull guy. Lost touch with him when we moved. Have to agree it had to be one of the scariest places to be sitting during battle

What's hard to believe is something I was reading about the ball turret was that is tended to be one of the safer places on the plane. Hard to believe.

Good Luck John. Hope it is a great day for ya!
I have a lot of respect for all the WWII planes and pilots/crew of them. It had to take a lot of guts to get up in the sky knowing that there was a good chance that you werent coming back.

What is amazing is that these were not career military. Our military today is outstanding. But you throw in average guys off the street from 18-35 and I don't think we'd have a chance. Have you seen the idiots walking around out there. We'd have to have two militarys. One for the real military, and the other for the drafted thugs, slackers, and stoners that didn't flee to Mexico. Of course we'd call the latter infantry.

I was Army for 9 years. It is sad when you cant even trust the guy watching your back. I just wish that we were able to beat the lower enlisted still.
Thanks all. Was a good day. Went smooth, 1st day jitters are over. Not sure of schedule yet, but will be in training for a few I'm sure. It's a bunch of guys that most use to be mechanics and such, so you can imagine the behavior type.
I got it, just haven't sat down long enough to reply with all the changes, lol.
