I've seen stuff like that happen too. I've also seen a Vette (older) trailered to the track and taken off by a crew of guys, then line up as the first car of the day..... rev up to who knows how many rpm and then dump the clutch. And then not even move. Broken driveshaft and 25 minute cleanup.

did he get into the golf course?

EDIT: Just realized that "Byron" could be a track.. I thought he was talking about Byron St. by Erskine Golf course in South Bend.

With your luck make sure someone takes a shovel and a bucket to pick up the pieces

Seems a little high. I paid $300 cash for the labor and he supplied the oil and stuff. I supplied the kit and parts. So I'm thinking it was around $550-600.

Now mine was not from a shop. I ordered parts online, some miscellaneous stuff from the Ford parts dealer, and then paid the chief Ford tech to do the work on the side in his own shop/garage.

Yeah I would definitely check other places. I was quoted with all the materials provided by me for 300 for the install.

I agree with the others. If you supply the gears, lube and pinion kit $300-$350 is a fair price. I was quoted that price just last week when I had the torque converter installed. Find a new place or make a road trip!!
