Champion, Brisk..etc. But I read good and bad about them. What is your guys feeling on the matter of our stock plugs?
Scott
people seem to like the champs for the most part from what I have seen around here any way. I have 30 k on mine I figure I can break them now or I can break them later.... I'll take later I guess.
when does ferd say we are supose to change them?

Kinda like the dead battery thing..... mine is still strong after 3 years now but I know it will fail eventually...... when it does, I'll probably buy another stock unit. Optima batteries are awesome, but the stocker has worked very well for me so why change.

I agree with all you have said including going with the stock battery when yours goes. I know there is no power gain or real benifit from changing plugs other than getting the antiseize on them.

I also have never been a fan of Champion spark plugs. And I have to admit that "if" I was going to replace my plugs I would most likely buy the Brisk. But there is 2 questions about them I can't seem to find an answer about...at least on the web. Are they 1 piece construction? And if the plug good up to 450 HP the same heat range as stock or colder? I suspect it's colder and not good for my N/A car at my power range. Do you know? I guess I should call Steeda and ask them.

I believe Ferd says our plugs are good for 100,000 miles. They don't say you will be able to remove them from the heads without breaking the plug or stripping the threads. And that is my only concern. Ferd screwed up by designing a plug with a thread that is in the combustion chamber where it can acquire carbon build up and a 2 piece design that will break off in the head because of the increased torque required by this carbon build up. And I also believe that all of us that are running CAI with tunes and the SC'ed guys are running a rich A/F mixture that compounds the carbon issue. So while I am very happy with the performance of the stock plugs it has nothing to do with why I think they need to be pulled. You never, never, never, put steel in contact with aluminum without antisieze. Much less heat and cool it 1000 times a year. Ford screwed up on this one.

Scott the Brisk plug Steeda recommends for a N/A Stang is a little colder than the flatrocks and is rated up to 450 hp...and my question to you is where do you think your hp is at the fly? I would guess from your mods and dyno stats your pushing 400 hp now ! and yes the Brisk plug is one piece

Well I guess it depends on what you believe the autotrans power sucking is. I have read 18-20% up to 20-23%. So if we settle at 21% loss it is more like 380 at the flywheel. I may just pull and clean, and re-gap the stockers. I don't want to mess up my custom Brenspeed tune that I did back in Feb. I really don't have any issue with the way the stock plug runs I am just concerned about the carbon build up issue and breaking or stripping the thread in the head.

Could be your best bet, Scott I've been thinking about replacing the plugs just as you have, pull the plugs and go from there ... who wants to spend a 150.00 bucks on plugs if no need ! ....... well unless you have tom281 money then its no big deal ...

Man - that will take a lot of root beer and ice cream!

Scott - I pulled my plugs in July - they all came out easily. Cleaned them up, anit-seized them and put them back in... Piece of cake.

I used the nickle anti-sieze on mine.
Cleaned, checked the gap & re-installed the stock plugs.
I'd had issues running Champions on my prior Ford products.
I'll pull & check mine again this winter. Had around 20-22K on mine when I pulled them out.

std,
I'm guessing you put on white stripes??

No kidding, I went through quite a few streams of water across the road today coming home from work in the Escort. That was nuts, been raining hard all day! I could have been at Byron Dragway in the 'stang but the weather had to take a turn for the worst.

Today was not a good day for travel, tomorrow does not look so good either. Lots of flooded roads that will just get worse due to more rain.
