Your Reason for Wanting a 05-07?
My current car is getting long in the tooth (1996 w/157K miles).
I love sports cars.
Great bang for the buck.
There's nothing out there quite like this new Mustang!
I want more HP! GT will give me 100 more ponies!

Classy and refined? I think the GT does that.

I could cheat and buy an 04 Mach 1. Its weird, I test drove an 04 GT, it has pretty much the same interior style as my 97 but it just……feels different for some reason. But I’m afraid that feeling would wear off quickly knowing there is an ALL new 05 available.
If I wait until 2006 for the new Cobra and bolt on an extra 100+ hp then I will be glad I waited.
I want it fast and I want it furious. All those Camaro SS drivers who challenge me today will bow to the wrath of Ford Mustang SVT Boss Cobra (hehe). [/b][/quote]
She's cute. She's got great taste in cars, she wants to beat-up on the GM fanboys and she wants 500+ hp to do it with.
If I were young and single, I'd be in love. As it is - I'm just a little frightened!
I had a couple of good friends who had a "built" Ford and thought they too were invincible. They were both killed when their car left the road at 2AM a few years back.
If I were you I would be careful what I wished for---------

My reasons for an '05:
A chassis that isn't a quarter century behind the curve.
Styling that knows the difference between quality of design vs quantity of design.
A shifter in the same time zone with me.
Interior panel gaps that aren't interior panel chasms.
Interior materials you might actually want to see and touch.
A headlight switch that doesn't remind me of our old '71 F-100 pickup.
Pedal layout that doesn't think heel and toe is a Riverdance jig.
Doesn't look like a size 10 body squeezed onto a size 8 chassis.
Free of highschool-studyhall fake scoops/ducts degrading the exterior.
Handling that realizes all roads aren't glassy smooth or but a 1/4 mile long.
Steering that actually communicates where your steering.
Emergency braking that won't have the nose bloodhounding the tarmac.
Hobbyhorse WB/Length relationship relegated to the toy store.
And some reasons to be hesitant (just to be fair):
Lack of IRS -- only half the chassis made it into the 21st century.
Interior still a few steps behind cheapest VW in materials and design -- but getting darned close.
Seat bolsters look a touch flat for pulling serious lateral G's -- one word: Recaro
Tranny one gear short of a six-pack?
HID's as its good to actually see where you're going.
A few fussy styling details such as GT's busy rocker panels.
Highschool-studyhall fake rear spoiler a needless trailer-trash performance cliche on Mustang's otherwise uptown couture.
All in all though, the pro's far outweigh any cons!

os121 got it just about right for me as well. I redid a '66 with '88 GT seats in it, and even though it was a puny I-6 200, it was the FUNNEST car I've ever had. It was just about perfectly proportioned, easy driving, even though I spun it twice.
I miss that car. But I figure a new '05 would do the trick. Problem is, I can't get the same colors.
Oh well. Still gonna get one.

houtex, you found the best word to describe the feel that I hope is reclaimed in the 2005 model .. 'proportional'. One thing that I won't miss about the old '66 is chasing the hub caps after spinning out on the back roads
My father had a 64 1/2 fastback 2+2, red, that I always wanted. When he sold it 3 years before I got my license I was distraught. So when I bought my '99 I told him I was reclaiming my childhood.... but it just did not look like the fastback he had.
The '05 does look like his old fastback, as well as Shelby is helping with the design of the new Cobra. With that combo who could refuse a Mustang now. The added bonus is the fit, performance and quality of the new one.

I want a Cobra because I want to feel the rumble of the V8 and the whoosh of the SuperCharger. I want a car that will turn heads and let people know you mean business. I want a car that will strike fear :worship: into the hearts of Porsche and Corvette drivers. I also want a 500+ hp Cobra in order to obliterate 99% of what's on the road.
So yes, I'm saving my pennies for the next generation SVT Cobra.
