Would this be a good build?
I have a ‘07 Mustang GT 4.6 3v, 5spd manual. 83k miles, it’s been babied it’s whole life. Oil changes every 3-4K miles, service etc...
I came up with a build and I’m looking for others thoughts on it. Like how do you think it would do in terms of acceleration, 1/4, overall street performance. I’ll list most of the big stuff. The only thing done to the car is a borla catback system. After extensive research I found you won’t need forged internals until the torque at the wheel starts to get over 450 lb ft, I found that out from brenspeed. So here’s my build idea, what do y’all think?
- Stage 1 Edelbrock E Force supercharger complete kit
- Pypes Shorty headers
- Pypes pypebomb axle back
- 3.73s
- Staggered lightweight wheels (255 F, 285 R)
- SVE diff cover
- MSD blaster coil on plug pack
- Z26 Power stop brake kit
- Ford performance one piece aluminum driveshaft
- Barton Short throw shifter
- Mach 400 Clutch kit

Looks like a good plan for the car. No expert here, but it will bring your stock ride to life. Hang on baby!

The first question that comes to my mind is how much would all those mods cost? Total out of pocket cost after installation? Would it be wiser, and possibly price-wise as well, to upgrade to a 5.0L Coyote?? I think they came out in 2011 which makes them an affordable 10 year old ride. Something to consider unless you absolutely love your car and can do all the work yourself. I know that would save huge $$$.

Agreed! I wouldn't sink that much money in mods for an engine which has 83k miles. Unless you intend on having your 4.6L 3v rebuilt at some point? IMHO, you more than likely would be better off in the long run by looking into doing a 5.0L Coyote swap or unless as NC07GTCS mentioned in his post, can do all the work yourself? only then would I consider justifying the expense for the mod list which you have plans for

As others have already mentioned its wise to consider your long term goals before spending this kind of money on a car that, when you think about it is already 14 years old. If you're technical and mechanically savvy you can save a lot of cost on install. My 07 was bone stock when I bought it. Today it has very little OEM parts remaining. Check out my build thread! That said the initial parts cost is up there enough to put you in a place where, like NC07 mentioned, in a different motor. The 5.0 is a great canvas to start with. I am a tried and true 4.6 fan and love the performance I've gained. That said any further gains and I am in a place the demands more money on a rebuild. The 5.0 already puts you there and brings with it a good deal of performance in stock form.
My 07 is the last Mustang I'll ever own. And when the 4.6 gets tired I'll rebuild it with forged internals and upgrade to stage 2 or even 3 with the set up I've got.
Your list is respectable and I am excited to see where you take it.

yeah I guess it is a trade off -- would you rather have your own custom one-of-a-kind build; or spend the same money on a factory car that will perform about the same and probably has a few thousand twins out on the street?
before buying the Edelbrock supercharger, I'd recommend that you check out "department of boost"

also if you are spending the money on wheels and tires, go as big as you can . . . I think you can fit 305 or 315 tires under the back, on 11" wide wheels
