It was staged, that video originally appeared in "Bum Fights" and I think pretty much everything in that series is staged. I had the misfortune of watching it at my friends house one night after a large amount of beer.

Staged or not, it does not matter, because stuff like this goes on everyday in this country, so unfortunately it is our reality. In addition, the laws seem like they were designed to protect the criminal a lot of times, Maybe the same people who wrote or criminal laws, designed Ford's production and allocation system...lol

BTW. I stupidly took my stang to an auto car wash for the very first time a few weeks ago. It was way too cold out to wash by hand and I wanted to get the salt off the car before I stored it for a few weeks. Well, when I got done with the wash I took my towel and was finishing the drying and noticed that I had huge noticeable scratches on the driver side rear fender and near the bumper. I definitely would have noticed it before, and I am certain that the car wash did it. I spoke to the manager right then and explained what happened....of course he kept saying that his car wash wouldn't do this to cars and that they perform daily quality and assurance checks of the car wash before they open each day......what?!?! How in the world do they do this? Drive a car through it and check to see if there are any scratches??? Yeah right....especially everyday??? Right. He also said that they are not responsible for personal damage....figures.

Anyway, I need to figure out how to get the scratches repaired. I took it to my dealership and the quote to fix the car was $520.00 est. I guess they have to sand blast the entire rear panel and paint it again...the scratches were that deep. I don't think my insurance will cover something like this, but I guess I should call and at least ask.

So I feel your pain a little. It all just really stinks!!
Unless they have a sign posted warning that the wash may damage the car i think they can be held liable. you may have something on your wash ticket saying that they are not responsible for damages but this statement dose not allow them to bypass laws that were put in place to protect the consumer. In your case i would suspect that they are completely liable for the damages to your car but i am not a legal expert so i suggest you call a legal expert and find out for sure.

I suppose you are right, some of my american friends have stories that I hardly believe. Here in Canada we are de-sensitized to things of this nature. In 27 years I've seen nothing worse then a fist fight and my "small town" of nearly 1 million people had less then a dozen murders last year most of them being domestics(probably why I'm not married). You are more likely to get offed by your wife here then be a victim of random violence.

That's what I figured but I still would like to check out crazy MA's law. And I couldn't believe that Kansas and Nebraska, in the heart of red country didn't have them while most blue states did.

This whole deal had to be staged.
Part of it anyway or there would be no camera.
[/quote]

Maybe it was staged, but just because there's a camera doesn't mean its staged. People like that are stupid. Remember not that long ago there was some hazing incident at a school that made national headlines because it was taped. And not infrequently you hear on the news how people get caught only because they taped their crime and show it off.

Thank God criminals are so stupid.

I just watched that video of the dude in the parking lot. If that was my car. That man would end up with a hole in his head.

All I can say is, thank god it was a PT Cruiser - If it had been the new mustang, I'd have found that guy, staged or not!!

P.S. KCTim, stop hatin on liberals- I guess I'm more libertarian, but anyone who wouldn't shoot a psychopath attacking their car with a wrench is NOT a liberal...they're just stupid. Self-preservation is not partisan.

I stop to get gas after work and I noticed my car had been keyed. I cleaned the car last night (garage kept), drove straight to work this morning then to the gas station after work. I am so pissed off right now I could kill. I called my work place when I got home and have a meeting on monday morning with the security dept.
I dont understand people who dont respect personal property. I will be out 500.00 deduct., plus the hassle of getting it to the paint shop, and knowing it has been repainted. I was hoping I could keep this car original including paint. I already feel differently about the car, since this has happened. I am hoping the company I work for will pick up the deduct.

I will drop off my car at the body shop to get repaired on friday (485.00).
will get door mirrors painted to match the car while it is at the shop. :bang:

And by the way, I am certain that in most states, someone bashing your car with a blunt instrument would be grounds to use deadly force.
Except here in New York State.
I think the law here expects you to hand over the keys.
... and toss him your wallet
... and then bend over.

Then, once it's all over, call the police and have them give you a case number and tell you you'll never see your car again.

Sorry to hear about your car. Do you have "comprehensive or comp" on your car? If so, it should go under that on your insurance policy and then you won't have a deductible. My 1978 Mustang II Ghia was keyed in 1999 the first weekend I took it out after restoring it. They keyed the hood. Got it repaired under "comp". Took the car to a high school quarter-final football game, parked it next to the security police for the game, and the driver's door got keyed. It also was repaired under my "comp" and I didn't have to pay a deductible.

It ceases to amaze me why people have to be so mean like that. Good luck on finding out who did it and you can beat the crap out of them for me too!! Heaven help the person(s) I catch breaking into my cars or damaging them!!

Oh, and BTW, FYI, when I take my car into the shop for any reason whatsoever, I log the mileage going in, and let them know I logged the mileage and that noone is to drive my car!! I learned that lesson the hard way a couple of years ago when I took my '78 into the body shop with a full tank of gas, and picked it up much later with damage done to the interior and had to leave on only gas fumes!! They had absolutely NO REASON to be driving my car!! So now, I log the mileage and let them know so they know I'll be checking. Last week, I had the new Stang into the dealership to get my oil changed and tires rotated (11,000 miles). As I was pulling into the space, there was a guy getting into the car in the next space. He acted like an irate customer. He started the car, threw it into reverse, and didn't look, just started backing out quickly. I hit the brakes, he hit the brakes. When I stopped he went ahead and flew out of the parking space and drove off. When I went inside to the service area with my keys, lo and behold, there he was in the service bay -- he was a service tech!! I let the service department know what happened and that under no uncertain terms was he to EVER drive my car -- not now or EVER!!

I wish comprehensive didn't have a deductible, but on my car I have it set at $500 to save premiums, but that may vary according to state laws.

I hate to hear about anybody's car being vandalized and I hope the shop that repairs the car does a good job. I had a car keyed about 23 years ago, and about 6 months ago I figured out who did it, but oh well.... The car ended up with a show quality paint job.

On a postive note, if an employee at my company did that to someone elses car, it would be grounds for termination, so hopefully they will be caught and pay dearly for their indiscretion.

Sorry to hear about your car. It's too bad you can't have something nice without some sicko ruining it for you.

Mike I feel for ya man. People that are jealous do really stupid things to other peoples property. What kind of place do you work at anyway where one of the people you work with acts like that? If they ever find out who did it the company better fire him. If they didn't that would not be the sort of company I would want to work for.

mgdumont,
My sympathies for you...but lemons into lemonade. Like RED92LX50 said, at least now you get your side view mirrors painted to match. Since the repaint will be fresh with OEM paint, there shouldn't be any age/fade issues either.

My current '97 vehicle (which shall remain nameless) was "scratched" by what I assume was bicycle handlebar across the length of the rear quarterpanel and driver's side door in a parking lot in college less than 24 hours after I bought it . It wasn't very deep and eventually has polished out.

Last year I noticed some skateboarders, well, kids w/ skateboards (there's a difference) fooling around in the parking lot of the apt complex I was required to stay in-between houses. (up until that point the car was always garaged). About an hour later I go out to run a quick errand and noticed that my trunk was heavily gouged and creased in like an edge of a skateboard whacked into it. Of course, no kids to be found. About $500 deduct later the whole trunk was repainted. I was extremely impressed with the repair. I am usually very picky/perfectionistic and did not notice any shade or finish difference from the repair to original, other than one or two flecks of dust that got into the paint (unavoidable, really).

Then, on our moving day to our new house, my wife goes out to start loading her '03 Santa Fe and notices that her car, and the two others on either side had the rear windows smashed in...but nothing inside stolen. $500 deduct and we're on our way. $1,000 in less than 5 months on stupid repairs that were not our fault. Not fun to lose that kind of money before moving into a new house either, I tell ya.

Ain't society great? Unfortunately we can't keep our cars new forever. If it's any consolation, all of us getting new Mustangs are going to go through our first "It's not showroom new anymore!" moment. It's somewhat easier when that moment is our own fault, much harder to swallow when it is at the hands of someone else.

arrr i feel your pain man.
My mom used to drive her mercedes to work.
But then people started getting jealous.
So they keyed it like 3 times already.
Now she lets me drive her to work.
arr
and today, while i was at class, my classmates car got broken into.
They smashed her windows, and stole stuff inside.
Got me concerned cause i drove the mercedes to school.
This is why i keep a c02 BB gun and baseball bat inside the trunk.

I work in Quality Assurance in the Aviation business. As for the body shop taking my car out for a spin, that will not happen. I know the owner and went to school with his sons, they are very professional. Although he did say that my car was his first 05 Mustang in his shop Ha, Ha, Ha. He has repaired a few of my vehicles over the years, nothing but perfection.
