Work Place Idiots
Mike, sorry to hear about your car.
Keep in mind if there are other buildings around, another company may have a camera that caught it on video.
I definately feel your pain.
Last year around high school graduation time, instead of jockying our vehicles around to put our '96 away we left it on the street. Some idiots with nothing better to do vandalized 15 cars including ours overnight. They put the narrow end of a pick-axe through the outer and inner skin of a front fender. If I caught who did it a pick-axe would go through the outer and inner skin of his a**.

I would never go after someone that keyed my car. I may go after them for money to fix it.
Someone beating on my car with a wrench that's a different story. I grew up and lived around fools like the guy in the video. For the most part you just stay away from them, but to do something like that to someone that's just sitting at a stop light minding there own business is just asking to get hurt bad someday. How would you know as he is coming around your car that he is not got to beat on your head. You have got to protect your own ***.

That's why I carry everywhere except to and from work...... They won't let us carry on base. I catch anybody doing that they would find themselves face down while I called the cops. Most people stop when you just start to reach, I've got lots of police buddies that are more than willing to help me out when I give them a call. Don't ever pull it unless your lifes in danger, but reaching for it freaks 'em out and the cry like little babies until your buddies arrive!!! Only done it twice, one purse guy and another breaking into a car. Never pulled it or had to use it, HOPE I never have to..... Punks like that p*ss me off. No respect for other peoples property.
Mike, I'm really ticked off at what happened to you.
I don't even have my car yet, and I'm already worried about that.
My wife's 2001 Santa Fe got keyed on the back hatch door the FIRST day she had the car! The scratch was only about a foot long, but it was down to the metal and we had to have the whole back door painted, and it cost us $500.
I can't imagine who gets their kicks out of doing that...
But, like other posters said, it doesn't make sense for you to get it repainted and then only drive it on weekends. You bought it to enjoy it, so that's what you should do. Hopefully the thing will get repainted so that only you'll know the difference.
The real bummer about this is that there's no way to stop it because you can't tell what's going through those a--holes' minds! If you park away from everyone else in parking lots, does that make your shiny new Stang stick out more as a target for these jerks?! I'm thinking my yellow GT is going to stand out as a target no matter where I park it...

Man you are a nut on the loose. Kill someone over a car? I am completely overwhelmed by your statement. I too am saddened by his loss like everyone else here but we have the maturity to deal with it in a lawful manner. NUFF SAID

All I can do is smile. Had the man in that video done that to me, I would have shot him. You could certainly make a case that you feared for your safety. This is why you get a concealed carry permit (law permitting) and carry a handgun in your car, as my father does, and I used to until I moved to Kansas (which has no permit law).

Using deadly force to protect property is rarely, if ever (likely never), lawful. However, the person in the car certainly could have used deadly force as a reasonable person in that situation would likely believe that they may suffer severe bodily injury as a result of that lunatics actions. Listen closely to the video, I believe you can hear the lady (?) in the car scream. She certainly would be terrified and if she shot him, I'd have a hard time believing that any jury would convict her of even manslaughter. Self-defense is a defense to murder and sometimes a complete defense instead of simply mitigating the charges down to manslaughter. I believe it'd be a complete defense here.

I believe every state except 4 (Illinois, Wisconsin, Kansas, and Nebraska) have some sort of concealed and carry law. I'm planning on doing some research this weekend to find how Ohio's differs from Massachusetts. I have a liberal friend who moved there and is amazed that his home state is now a bunch of "hicks and hillbillies carrying shotguns to the grocery store." While I'm not thrilled about having nutjobs being able to carry, I want to shut him up.
I work in a real bad parking lot to, and I am also worried about the car I dont have yet, My 98 Maxima,m has scuffs, dings and dent at all 4 corners from that parking lot. We have cameras and car still get keyed, hit and vandalized occasionally...If my car gets keyed, I will probably just touch it up and call it a day, I remember how pissed i was after my first big ding when the car was new, I really love the people who just push their door open and just hit your car, I have had this done to me while I was sitting in the car...unreal how stupid people can be.
bottom line is, if you are going to drive it as your every day car, kaka is going to happen

Rubbish, man. I own plenty of guns myself and all my friends have CCW's, but listen, you can't seriously kill a man for damaging your property. It's immoral, and it's against the law. Don't give responsible gun owners a bad name!

You are correct, there are only 4 states, and somehow, I found myself in one of them. I never thought good ole red Kansas would not have a permit law. The one thing you have to look at is the restrictiveness of each states' laws. Most of the Northeastern states' laws are extremely preclusive, and only people like off-duty police, etc. can carry. Also, I agree with your assessment of this lady's right to shoot this man. As far as I know, I don't think any states allow deadly force for defense of property, but my point was as you described....in that video, it was not a defense of property question, but one could clearly be scared for their physical safety.

First, you must be a liberal. Second, someone bashing your car with a wrench is not only a threat to your property, but a threat to your person. Third, I am not ashamed at all to admit I value my property over the life of a loser like that. And by the way, I am certain that in most states, someone bashing your car with a blunt instrument would be grounds to use deadly force. After all, a crazed lunatic could certainly hurt you seriously with such an object.

You, ,my friend, are simply wrong. I AM a responsible gun owner, and I have studied this area of the law quite extensively....in law school. You are correct...you cannot use deadly force to defend your property, but pay attention to the nuance in my argument. You would not be defending your property here, you would be defending yourself. He is bashing your car, with you in it, with a weapon that could easily bludgeon someone to death. There is not a jury in the US (except maybe MA) that would not acquit someone if they took down a crazy crackhead who was doing this.
Some dumb jealous SOB at work did it. Ask around they probably bragged about it to someone else. Is anyone openly pissed off at you there? You can get a "feel" for who did it. It'll probably never happen again and what goes around comes around so the ***hole who did it will eventually get his.
Self defense all the way, whoever said anything about property...I carry with a permit in CT, and I would have been justified in blasting that crackhead right into the next world, in fact I probably would get in more trouble if i had run him over, and to boot, if you did not kill him, he would sue you, and probably get a settlement...all BS, remember the old saying" Dead men tell no tales" or sue you!
One more thing, I would have slept well at night if I shot and killed that guy in that exact same situation, I would have done the world a favor!

Sorry to hear about your car. I hope you nail the sob(s) that did it and be sure to let us now how it turns out.
As far as the vide0 goes it makes me sick. Can you imagine the fear that driver experienced? What if there was a baby in the back when that idiot smashed in the rear window??? How anyone can say that using a gun (in self defense) is not justified in this example is simply not living in reality.
