What's a new quarter window worth?

Mine isn't broken, but I want to install my SHR louvers and I didn't buy the removal kit. I am taking to a window place tomorrow, but if the windows aren't that much I might try to "remove" them again. I don't really need to have them, but it would be nice to salvage them and have on hand if needed down the road.

So, what is a window worth?

About $200.00 each at the first site I checked, MSRP is about $250.00

Well, it's tough to remove them without scratching the black paint on the backside around the perimeter. I installed the SHR louvers this weekend and the process was pretty straightforward, but I ate up the paint around the outside of the windows with the wire. I figured, better to hit the window with it than the car, right?

You could probably re-use them if you threw a quick coat of flat black on the backside of the windows near the edge.

Richard, because I had a problem with my factory right rear quarter window (one of the corners was sticking out -- too much urethane from the factory in that one spot)...I had to have it replaced (by the glass shop that the dealer uses)...the rear quarter window and installation cost $320. The glass shop broke the original one on purpose in order to not have to go through removing it with wire, etc., and possibly ruining the exterior paint surrounding the window. At first the dealership wanted to remove it and re-install it themselves...however, they told me that they attempted to do that with another GT and they ended up ruining the exterior paint surrounding the window and so they had to re-paint that GT. I didn't want my GT going through the same thing...so, I paid for the job (breaking the old one and replacing it with a new one). Fortunately, the dealership then decided to reimburse me for the entire job.

(Now for the real kicker: the glass shop replaced the quarter window and "centered" perfectly (i.e. exactly the same distance of space around the entire quarter window)...however, I noticed that the factory machine places the quarter window a bit forward towards the front of the car so that the longest side of the window lies against the pillar more closely...so I had the glass shop break the glass again and replace it and this time I watched as they installed it to make sure it matched the factory side as far as the position goes...and of course, this time I paid for the $320 install..to say the least, my wife was not pleased with me doing this, saying that no one would notice it...but I wanted it to be perfect.)

Well, after reading some of the feedback on this issue, I decided the risk of damaging paint on the car using a wire and the fact that if the windows come out in one piece you will likely have to repaint the black backing, that breaking them was the way to go.

I didn't take any pictures of the broken windows, just sad to see. I decided to break them myself and remove the adhesive instead of paying someone else to do it. I remember as a teenager I had a friend that worked at an autowrecker and we would smash some of the windows out of cars before they headed to the crusher. It was so easy to do. When I had to smash mine, it was very difficult to do! To damage something you love was a very hard thing to do, I almost felt like saying to the car "I am sorry I have to do this, but it is for your own good, trust me." One thing that helped was the fact the windows were tinted so most of the glass stayed intact with the tint. No cut fingers and the paint is untouched, glad that is behind me. My wife was pissed that I was going to smash the windows in my car, they just don't understand!

So now, the glass is out, I took the car to a glass place and they have installed the louvers. I am heading to pick the car up in about an hour and will post some pictures.

Make sure they used 3M adhesive primer on the car/paint side. Otherwise, you might be picking the louvers off the pavement on a particularly hot summer day. ;-D

They did, just got it home. No pictures yet, I have to wait a full day then remove the tape. I will wash the car and take some pictures (quite dirty now). $92 to install including the 12% taxes. Not a bad deal really. I don't mind taking on many jobs, but for this one, someone with tons of experience with the adhesive and installing windows was the way to go for me.

^^^ SWEET deal, man!!! Let me tell you, it is WORTH $92 to not have the hassle...

It took me maybe 3 hours from start to finish, but that urethane crap was murder to get out with a regular caulk gun... I nearly sprained my wrist just to get enough bead to make them sit properly!

You made the right choice, no doubt about it!

I had mine done about 3 weeks ago at glass shop. They did a great job, glass intact, no scatches and all for 135 dollars.

It looks like PenguinGT's

Your all getting cheap qoutes. I got some qoutes for $300 a window. I did the install myself. But for ~$90 I'd pay someone to do it. I spent atleast $50 on the tools to do it myself.
