What in the world are these things?

Two things, actually.

The first. The map lights assembly has two small holes They look like temp. sensors but they're not.

The second. On the tach right under 4k rpm's, there's an arrow pointing directly up. It doesn't light up, it doesn't blink, its not even listed in the manual! Just discovered this the other day and I was wondering what it is.

Any ideas?

Holes near your map lights are motion sensors for the active anti-theft

The arrow is... Oh yea, I have no idea, since I havn't been in my car for three months... winter sucks

I got half of your questions anyways

+1 on the motion sensors

I'm pretty sure the arrow is a shift light that Ford decided not to enable. My mother's last car had one just like it that lit up when it was time to upshift and it got really annoying.

Interesting about the shift light. It would have been nice to be able to activate/deactivate that from the dash. Oh well. Thanks for the answers guys!

They are part of the alarm system (sensors) you couldn't ask for better holes.

doubt you would have actually wanted them... they are usually set to come on for max MPG so it's basically useless.

Yes, the shift light was originally intended to be used on the "new" Mustang, but so many people complained about it they left it off. It's not even there in '05's. At least not in mine. I'm not sure about the '06's. The GT500 has it and it's enabled, as far as I know. The cool thing is you can disable it yourself or just change the shift settings yourself.

The PCM has a setting to enable/disable the shift light. I haven't been able to confirm if the LED is actually connected, but I see the various settings via my SCT Advantage software. It can be adjusted for max MPG or max acceleration.

The GT500 has 2 shift lights and an audible buzzer.

This is an old thread that discusses this at length.
http://forums.bradbarnett.net/showthread.php?t=57141

Summary: It was originally intended to come on to tell you when to shift for best gas efficiency (~2500 rpm) but was ultimately not activated in the S197. BamaChips tried to get it to work as a shift light but was not successful. GT500 currently has an adjustable one with an audible beep. The thread then digressed into just buying a raptor shift light.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think there's anything at all there in an '05. Not even the arrow.

I have an arrow on my '07, and had one on the '05. It's hard to see, you have to have the lighting just right, but it's there. Like stated above though, there might not be a light behind it, and it's not activated.
