I now have around 1,000 miles on my 05 gt, and my service engine soon light popped on at around 875 after some hard acceleration. I'm taking it in to my local Ford tomorrow, but I was just wondering if anyone else has had this happen yet, and if so what was the cause?

By the way, this car is AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!

happens in one of my cars if I rev it to hard when it is cold.

The dealer will figure it out, lucky for warranties.

That makes sense Galaxie because I took it out when it was cold, I had the engine warm though. That could easily be it. Thanks.

Nick- I would bet this light has come on as a result of your gas cap. Did you fill up before the light came on? I have heard some people complain they are having a hard time filling up becasue the gas pump keeps turning off. My Land Rover has the same problem with filling, and thus, the service engine light is a common resulting problem. The cure: you have to reset the computer (erase codes) and just make sure you tighten the gas cap past 3-4 clicks to be sure a tight seal has been made. ALL new cars have very sensitive sensors monitoring emmisions so the "service engine" light will probably come on for countless different reasons. The gas cap thing is just the MOST COMMON.

Thanks Doug, I bet that's a possibility because I've only been turning the cap 1 or 2 turns at most. I'll have to mention that to Ford tomorrow. It doesn't seem to be running strange or anything, so something minor like that seems most likely.

If you have trouble with the pump shutting off try pulling the nozzle out just a bit instead of shoving it in all the way, that usually works. And yes, it could very well be you didn't put the cap on tight.

you gotta turn it until it stops and starts clicking, AND go past 3-4 clicks. It's stupid but necessary with todays autos

...you forgot to mention that while fueling, you need to have the ignition turned off. Leaving the car running can also trip the light.

Yea that engine light came on with my car at 560 miles. I did unplug the battery after that, thinking the computer just needed to be reset. The light did stay off and figured it was fixed.
Then two days ago the engine light came back on.
So I am taking her in tomorrow morning..
plus I am only getting like 13 MPG
90% in city though

Hope once they fix that light I will get better mpg...
One can hope...

bty has like 1600 miles
gas cap is on tight too

I'm relieved to see that others are also having this same problem too. My light just came on after turning over 200 miles. Took it to the dealer who promptly checked my gas cap; turned out to be tight. He said the light should go off after 45 miles or so, if not bring it back. It didn't, so I have an appointment with service tomorrow morning..

Hey I had the same problem when I bought the car....they had to change a sensor on it. They told me it was letting to much gas into the engine. It took them a week to get the part, but it was a very quick fix and the light has been off ever since.

Am i missing something.

You say the light popped on at around 875 but now you're over 1000 miles.

Just curious why you drove it with that light on for over a 125 miles.

Im guessing this happened late friday after the service dept closed and he ran over 125 miles because usually it means nothing, and if it meant something, I'm sure he would have noticed...

The gas cap is one thing that will turn on the "service engine soon "light ,the other with some cars is ethanall blended gas or a change from one type of gas to another will cause the light to come on .
It can take up to a couple of tank fulls of gas before the light goe's out again on some cars.
Best to check with your owners manual on this subject just to make sure.
