Acura RSX 2.0L
horsepower: 200 @ 7400 RPM
torque: 142 @ 6000 RPM

Chevy Cobalt 2.0L (SUPERCHARGED)
horsepower: 205 @ 5600 rpm
torque: 200 @ 4400 rpm.

Dodge Neon SRT-4 2.4L (TURBOCHARGED)
horsepower: 215 @ 5300 rpm
torque: 245 @ 4400 rpm

Mazda 6 v6 3.0L
horsepower: 220 @ 6,300 rpm
torque: 192 @ 5,000 rpm

Mitsubishi Eclipse v6 3.0L
horsepower: 210 @ 5757
torque: 205 @ 3750

Nissan Altima v6 3.5L
horsepower: 245 @ 5,800 rpm
torque: 246 @ 4,400

Pontiac G6 v6 3.5L
horsepower: 200 @ 5400 rpm
torque: 220 @ 4400

Toyota Camry v6 3.0L
horsepower: 210@5800
torque: 220@4400.

Toyota Camry v6 3.3L
horsepower: 225 @ 5600
Torque: 240 @ 3600

Cobalt and SRT both used forced induction, so they don't really count. Even so, we see that the Cobalt is WAY down in torque compared to a Mustang V6, and the SRT is only a hair better than the Stang.
As for the rest: almost all of them come up short in torque, in one case by nearly a hundred foot-pounds, in two others by nearly half that much. Only the Camry 3.3 and the Altima 3.5 (both not much smaller than the Mustang's "primitive" engine) actually match or VERY slightly exceed the Stang's 240 lb of torque. And both cars cost around thirty grand with those engines, almost enough to buy a Cobra, let alone a GT.

Rik,

This is great! I think you need to add "Check Mate" at the end of your post.

Thanks all for a great read!

japanese car makers arent like american auto makers.....ull rarely see a japanese v8 cuz of gas milage. soo they use v6's and get the most they can get out of them....and they also use turbos.....u gotta take these into consideration. and americans like good sounding cars and a v8 gives off a growl that makes any japanese car look like a joke even if it has 300+hp modded.....just my 2 cents

yea i really hope u mean a hair better than the v6 cuz if ur comparing the GT to the SRT-4 theres no comparison......the neon (and i dont care if its the SRT-4) is an ugly digusting horrible machine and the 05 GT just pee's all over it. im gonna laugh at people if they pull up next to me and attempt to race me. sorry this topic gets me alittle heated but the cobalt ss and the neon srt-4 started the line-up of american ricers. and even comparing the v6 to the srt-4 id take the 05 v6 over that little junk box anyway....its just horrible looking, sounds horrible and i could go on but i wont :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang:

Rik you said it best. This thread just reminds me of trying to sell a computer. A lot of people say "I can get a 3 GHz computer for $600.00 less than your 3 Ghz computer" Ya, well that is a celeron vs and P4 and then theres the AMD thing.

All I am trying to say is post after post I see people comparing apples to oranges. It is a never ending battle but I think after Rik's input this thread is toast

after reading all the post here i can say i agree with the fellow that said he bought the car for looks and didn't care about power, that makes sence. All the talk about torque is meaningless to me though , cause when it comes down to it the faster car down the 1/4 mile means more to me then which engine has more torque.
Again the person that meantioned that they did not consider the HP at all when buying made the most sence to me.
Thank you all for the imput

You're completely missing the point here.

You are comparing other car's optional engine with the Mustang's base engine. There is no need for a higher HP V6 because you can buy a Mustang with a 300 HP / 320 lb ft V8.

So who cares about a high performance V6 that needs premium gas?

Torque is a huge factor in the 1/4 mile, that's what gets you off the line!
