I'm just pointing out how utterly ridiculous that statement was. Nothing more.

Bottom line to this is that the US Department of Transportation has made TPMS MANDATORY on all cars starting in 2007. PERIOD. Unless, of course, the courts strike it down yet again...

As to the comment about Bush, I stand by my evaluation. It idiotic to suggest that a President has anything to do with such a mundane decision regarding safety equipment mandated by the DOT. That's not political, it's just plain common sense.

I'm sure some aftermarket company will come out with something to bypass this in order to put larger wheels on, but I wonder if that opens them up to liability should any 'explorer like' accidents occur.
On side note, I'll take the heated seats option. They rock when it gets chilly outside.

TPMS Wheel Kits are Approx. $50.00 per Wheel at This Time. They are Listed For Mustang with 16",17",and 18"Wheels at this Time. It is My {Opinion} that the TPMS for the 20" Truck Application would {Probably} do the Job on a 20" Wheel. It May Be Possible to Use a 20" Kit on a 19" Wheel by Downsizing The Strap. This My Opinion Only At This Point. Just a Little FYI to Think About. Thes Kits are for Vehicles already equipped with TPMS and not a RETROFIT.

I wouldn't get it. My Tundra has this feature. I wanted to get 20" rims for it but was told I can't because the TPMS's sending unit won't fit. It's an option for old ladies who don't know how to check their tire pressure..

My dad has an Escalade and we fitted 22" wheels with no problem. The sensor still works perfectly. Its a great tool actually, you dont have to climb outta your car when your going on a long trip to check pressure. You just press a button and it gives you
Right Rear
Left Rear
Left Front
Right Front
The problem with the GM system on the Corvette is the batteries can't be changed when they wear out. I think their life expectancy is about 10 years, if I remember correctly, but spending up to $400 for 4 sensors, wouldn't make me very happy to say the least.
the purpose of it is for energy efficiency and emissions. the lower tire pressure can hurt your gas milage.... by whatever amount, but enough that they decided that we need monitors.... now if only they could figure out how to do a midflight air-up so that we don't have to stop and get out just to air up the tires. I would suspect that that action would waste more gas.

Funny... I seem to recall that the US Department of Transportation (and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) is a cabinet-level department that ultimately reports to the President of the United States. Has something changed in the last 5 years to alter this???
Oh and by the way this rule is a re-instatement of a ruling that was issued in 2002. It was struck down by the US Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit in 2003. The court threw out the previous rule and ordered the DOT to start over. As such this is the second iteration of this rule.

I always thought these systems used the ABS sensor to determine the speed of the wheel. If the tire was low on air it would be a slightly smaller diameter and spin at a minutely different speed. This is how the old GM systems worked, I thought.

I like the idea of the heated seats. Kevin is for the '07 model year or the actual calendar year. I sometimes get confused as to which people are referring to. I would like to have some heated seats in the Shelby.
...and before I get the comments about, "you should only care that the car goes fast"...
I do care about that, but again if I am paying the money for the car I would like to have the option to have my tush warm.
