I thought best shift points were to shift so the next higher gear were nearest peak torque rpm's.

ex: peak HP at 6k, peak tq at 4k, redline 6200. Shift so the next highest gear lands near 4k and the torque propels you back to peak HP.

If the trans is geared so that shifting into peak torque at the next gear provides more horsepower it will improve acceleration otherwise just shifting so that an engine arrives at peak torque wont improve anything, at east as far as drag racing is concerned.
