Ticking from Tachometer
#1
OK I had my instrument cluster replaced for a ticking noise coming from the tachometer. The new one does this also so I want to know if all the Mustang tachs do this. The ticking happens when you turn the car off if you put your ear to the tach it sounds like a watch winding down, it lasts for about 4 seconds then goes away. You can hear it a little while the car is running. I posted here to reach those who would not normally see the poll on the "issues area" I would appreciate everyones input! Thanks!

This seems to be falling on the board, I want to know this not to just fix it for my self but Ford will be told of this from the Tech at my dealer, so this will help alot of people; or at least I hopt it will.

Yeah I noticed in mine also. I never noticed while I'm driving, but I hear it when I shut the car off. All of the guages make this noise as they return to their normal positions when the car is off. I think it's just the normal noise of the motors that move the guages.

it is the guages falling to zero. next time you turn your car off, watch the temp and fuel guages. when they stop, the noise stops. everyone has this noise. is it a problem? not for me to say, but if you dont like it, get out of your car faster, or leave the radio on for a few seconds after you turn off the ignition.

I voted NO.
I don't hear any winding down after shutting the car off. I also don't think it's anything to worry about, if that's the only time you hear it.
I do have a rattle coming the gauge area that may be coming from the tachometer, since it's rpm-related. I wouldn't call it a ticking - it's a rattle or buzz happening between 2900 and 3500 rpm. It comes and goes though - I hear it maybe 50% of the time I'm driving. I will not rest until I figure out what it is...

Very cool I never noticed that the ticking stops if you open the door, going to have to hear/see it for my self. I think I might be normal too though I guess only time will tell, just never noticed this on other cars and this is my first Mustang. Thanks BigCat, missed you joining so thanks and Welcome!

Mine has always done that also, but I never really thought anything about it until you brought it up. It seems to be coming from the center guages. When you take out the key, they are winding down going back to the left. If you notice that if you turn the key back on you can hear them winding up as they go back to the position they were in when you stopped the car (fuel, temp, battery, oil).
