Exclamation Those that have Champion plugs might want to have a look

Lots of talk on spark plugs, especially on the F150 forums (I own one of those too). Click this and look and read on....

I re-used my Ford plugs, only 35k, but used Autolite HT1s in my 04 F150.

did you see the pics I put in the other thread of my champions? the poorest quality parts ive ever seen...I wouldnt trust champion to make a muffler clamp at their mexico plant.

take a look at the pics- one ogf the 8 is two threads short-likely woulda damaged the freakin head hadnt I checked, most of the 8 are welded crooked and the platinum tips are off center- would effectively make gapping diagonal, and several had tiny metal slivers showing at the seal(guessing also metal shavings on the inside too)

I wrote Federal Mogul, no reply...theyre still sitting here, need to take them back to Summit and talk with them- Summit I'm sure would refund, but I'd rather they ***** to the manufacturer to fix their sloppy *** production issues.
$103.00 for a set of absolute JUNK that likely woulda damaged my engine had I installed them...maybe I just got a bad set, I mean 5 of the 8 looked just a little pathetic, but the other three shoulda never ever made it out of the factory...take a look at the pics, decide for yourself:

Yes I saw that a while back, part of the reason I thought I should share this problem as well.

Autolites are fine, same quality as the Ford plugs as far as I could tell, actually, other than the labelling there is no difference other than the price.

Wow, I got mine right from Advanced Auto and opened them up before buying and they were fine, had my minature mag-glass to check them over. I gapped them at .45 and they perform great. Good thing is I've pulled them out a few times already and don't have to do all that prep bull**** . Maybe they had a bad run when you got yours or something..

I agree with poster in other thread

"Thats damage from prolonged detonation"

Any plug would do that, not a Champion specific problem.

Just make sure you check them closely. Here's what I posted on another site.

Bought mine from RockAuto about a year ago, one plug the little cone slipped over the spark area (brand new in box). Rock Auto wouldn't warranty their sale and had to go to Champion Canada who arranged to replace locally. The past few weeks my 06 Mustang GT has been driving me crazy, running rough and misfiring. Finally, finally after trying everything with Maf, throttle body, different tunes and almost checking phasers, timing and worrying about broken comp cams valve spring, I decided to put the original motorcraft spark plugs in and voila, car is as smooth as silk again. Examined the Champions 7989 and found on one that the metal neck just above the threads and the socket head was cracked and broken on both sides. Absolutely no reason for this to be broken as car had ran well for over a year and the plugs had not been touched. My experience with Champions. Have photos of both.
