All I am saying, is that I am told from someone rather connected (we are talking meets Hau Thai-Tang weekly), that it's a 5.4, S/C V8. He went as far as to give me HP numbers for both 40k mile and 100k mile reliability tests. He has seen, and driven it. He even told me whose facilities they are designing it at (and, it's not Ford's).

If the 5.4 fit in the Cobra R, and the engines in this chassis sit even lower, adding the blower should still clear a raised hood. With the lightning gone, and the blown 5.4 allready being used in the GT, Ford has to split up the development cost somehow.
Could you find out, or do you already know, how reliable the engine will be after 100k? I don't want Ford to go, 'well it passed the 100k test but not the 110k, oh well let's sell it anyways'. Not saying Ford will do that just wanting to know how long it lasted in the reliability tests.

Well I'd say you sound very credible. And believe me, I'm rooting for you to be right. Cuz then Plan A is back on track.

Buy an '07 Cobra.

SVTJayC - You state IRS, can you state 6spd also? What about a price range? About 35K? 40K? Or over 40K? And is mid-06 timeframe accurate, or will it be sometime in late 2005?

I didn't get into pricing or release dates, sorry. I will bring it up next time i see him, and see what i can find out. I don't remember if i asked him about transmission, i just assumed 6spd since that is what was in the 03, and what they were testing in the Lightning concept.

Thanks SVTJayC. Go Forth and obtain as much info as you can. I am tired of waiting. This stuff keeps me from buying a Vette or M3.

Exactly. Helps keep me from doing something stupid like buying a GTO.

SVTJayC, also could you ask about if this picture is similar to what the car will look like (if you can) : http://autoweek.com/article.cms?articleId=100066

Thank you for all your great information!

That's the pic I posted awhile back and was wondering about. It may not be a final version, I would think there would be a little more variation from the production 05, but I still think it's definitely a cobra test mule.

What do you think Jay? Thanks for all the info

consensus around here is that the mule in that pic was photoshopped.

All I heard was that the mule is a standard cammo'd GT with the Cobra engine in it. So if that isn't the Cobra mule, it can't be far off. I believe though, that they are only using that mule to test the drivetrain right now. Not sure if things like IRS, brakes, etc, are in the mix yet.

I just hope SVT does it right the first time. There top of the line Mustang should not have less power, or smaller wheels/tires, than a pick-up truck (Lightning). If Ford and other companies can put little extras in 17k cars and all of their other models (Nav system--not really necessary), but it would be nice to have the options available---such as heated seats. maybe even a Sunroof!!!???

What I am wondering also is when Ford will have the availabilty of other options, such as wheels, exhaust, and so forth (like Chevy used to do for those ugly Z28's..you could get upgraded exhaust, wheels, gears and rears. Do any of you remember a few years back when Ford stated they were going to start offering customers the availabilty to customize their brand new cars like this??

.................waitin' for the next Cobra...........................

I want the SMG to be in the next cobra! I'd be willing to pay extra for it as an option!

Well a big truck has alot more room for big heavy tires and rims. A little mustang might not have that much room to play with.

Besides going with huge wheels and tires, doesnt nessecarily improve handling.

Anybody raise their hand if they think those boneheads running around with 20"+ wheels and wide tires are really improving something other than looks?

Unsprung weight is a real factor in vehicle performance. Add a butt load of weight and then you gotta add things like heavier springs and shocks to control the motion of the wheel, add heavier springs and shocks and that compunds the problem with the already higher unsprung weight the brakes have to carry. So in turn they have be increased in size which adds to the unsprung weight factor again. So these big fat lightning size tires more than probably took away from performance than the car might have gained.

Same with ungodly amounts of HP, all of a sudden HP goes off the deep end and things have to be beefed up to handle the increased stress.

I know there are cobras running around with a bajillion hp and enough torque to ****** gods own throne out from under him, but ultimately how reliable are they in the long run.

All things reach a point of diminishing returns.

I agree to a point.....but you gotta admit the BFGoodrich add with the blue Mustang looks pretty darn good. I think 18's are, but 19's do look very nice on a car like that. I just don't wanna have the too small wheel look like I had on my '01 Cobra.

As far as SMG.............NEVER!! Sorry, but I dont think there is anything like feeling that power when you are shifting gears in a manual transmission. I think BMW ruined the next M5...with only SMG available.

Like I said, don't hold your breath on that new lightning. Or any new Lightning.
Any chance they are holding out for the 6.2 Hurricane? I can't wait to find out the specs of that engine....Don't let us down Ford!! [/b][/quote]
thats my bet. It makes the F-series in a couple years, why would they offer a smaller engine in the L. Its powerfull enough to also get to over 500 hp with cheaper 3v heads and make more torque.

why, do you think it would confuse buyers that might get hung up on the decision between a two door coupe and a pickup truck??? Like the GT supercar, hp numbers are not the biggest reason consumers use to pick vehicles.
