I have never bought a new car before. The '05 Mustang will be my first (or maybe an '06 Pontiac Solstice, but that's a whole new topic...).

I currently drive a 1995 Saturn SL1. I'm not the type to go out and spend a small fortune unless I need to, so I'm planning on running my current car into the ground. I'll wait until something major goes wrong with it, and then I'll get my Mustang. Here's the dilemma:

What if my current car breaks down this summer and I'm ready to get the '05 Stang? How long will it take from when I place my order until the car arrives?

I know it takes months NOW, but that's just because of all the orders. This summer, will I see my new car in a week? Two weeks? What?

This is a major concern because I'll be left without a car for this time period and I may have to rent something until my Mustang comes in.

Any insight would be awesome. Thanks guys!

Hopefully for you, after the hype dies down some, you'll be able to find what you are looking for in the 05 Stang at a dealer nearby! Then there would be no wait!

Otherwise - not sure how long it'd take when ordering.

I should have mentioned this earlier. I have specific tastes. The exterior/interior colors HAVE to be right. I need a few options, but I refuse to pay for other silly ones.

Such as $500 to $1000 extra for a better sound system. Who cares.

Or $650 for leather. Who cares.

Furthermore, I refuse to buy a car that has been test driven a few times.

So I really want to have one ordered.

Normaly orders take 8 to 10 weeks, is my understanding.

Normal turn around time for an "average" vehicle is 6-8 weeks.

The hype will die in the winter. Sports car sales always drop, especially RWD sports cars. On the east coast anyway.

That depends on which Mustang you end up getting. If you get the GT then your fine because the cloth has those reflective ponies woven into the cloth. The Mustange V6 however has the horrid "Mustang" text woven into the material. I've seen it in person and it looks that bad IMO. So I'll get leather for that a lone.

As far as the stereo... I can probably put a vastly superior aftermarket system in with $1,000 then the Shaker 1000. Not only that but the Shaker 1000 is the blandest ugliest stock system I have ever seem. Ford spends all that money to add MyColor then they give us a plain, bland looking deck with spinach green text, what's up with that?!
