Spec 2+ Clutch Owners: Step Inside

This is posted in the 2005-2009 section because this is where the experience is.

On a bolt-on to mildly supercharged car (Under 400 rwt) how have those that used the Spec 2+ clutch felt about its engagement characteristics? Slippable or all or nothing? Does it disengage fully for shifting? Any slippage? How long did it last?

I have an opportunity to be a test car for Spec (on the 2011) and thats the clutch they would like to do.

Ehhh I wouldn't be comfortable with being a test car for a clutch. Let someone else have that headache.

If the new version is anything like the 05-09 version, tell them you're interested only in the 3 seriers or higher. I remember many failures in the 05-09 version of anything less than the 3 series; a friend of mine had a 2+ in his turbo GT and it lasted about 2 months after proper break-in and normal driving. I had a 3+ in my blown 06 and it was great. Just my 2 cents.

If the clutch should damage anything else in the test process is Spec going to cover the cost of replacement/repair?

Its more a case of a car for fit and design and I get (hopefully) a clutch that will not stick to the floor at anything over 6500-6800 rpm like the stock clutch (pedal mods already done).

They are saying the only difference between the Spec 2+ Light Pedal and the Spec 3+ for the 2005+ now is the friction material on the disc.

I think I will tell them its either Spec III+ or I wait for the 2012 Boss 302 Clutch which hopefully finally fix the issue.

FWIW, the GT500 has a TR-6060 with a multi-disc clutch (IIRC). That's the clutch setup I'd use, whether it was NA or supercharged. It seems silly to save a few hundred by going with a single disc when a twin-disc can handle much more torque. If it will cost $500 in labor to replace clutches, go for the beefier setup. Just my 2 cents. But based on my research here, the Spec 3+ is what everyone seems to recommend for a single disc clutch. I'd probably go with a multi-disc, like Exedy's Stage 4.

Thanks Guys, I think Ive cooled off enough to wait on Ford to come up with a fix.

Metroplex who said I was paying for labor?
