My insurance company seems to be great at the moment I am really concerned about the rims as I switched from Geico (and they were covered) now I am with Travelers and they said we are going to go after this lady for eveything including the deductable and cost of the rims. The funny thing is, when I went to confront the lady she was screeming that she has insurance and blamed me for what happened. I really think she was high or drunk and that is why she didn't stop. The body shop has the car and I have no idea how long they are going to have it for. The whole left side of the car has to be replaced. UNBELIEVEABLE. He gave me a rough estimate of 4,000 big ones minimum and that is not including the cost of the rims. So depending on how things go next week, I may have a s/c and new rims next week.
I am sporting this Jetta at the moment for a rental.
if your car was parked, there is no way you should be liable for anything, and if the woman has insurance, they should pay for it. As for the hit and run.. hopefully that woman will be off the road for a while.

I agree using genuine ford parts is important, and use a fine tooth comb looking over the car for flaws. I hope eerything works out for you. to one respect its also just a good thing to be hapopy for is the fact you werent in the car at the time of the accident.

That really sucks man. I hope she gets the book thrown at her. It's a bit of a PITA from an organization point of view but here you can't get registration or plates without having insurance first. So you can buy a car, but you can't get plates or anything for it without actually providing proof of insurance.

So you could feasibly just have a stolen plate or whatever but by and large 99% of drivers around here would have insurance.

I took it to a body shop called Sudden Impact, it's in Irvington. These guys have had my car and dads car before, so I trust that it will be back to normal. I am just really worried about the rims. I don't want to have to pay for new ones.

That's a standard response here in Pensacola. In almost every situation I here of a someone in an accident, the person's who fault it was (the hitter) jumps out of the car and starts screaming/cussing/racial slurs at the person they hit. Usually, the 'hitter' has no insurance, no license, is drunk, or in one case, was driving a stolen car with no brakes. I've even heard of cases where the "hitter" started yelling at people trying to help give first aid to those they hit and to mind there on %&^%$#! business.

My Titan was totalled by a drunk driver who was speeding and fell asleep at the wheel while driving without a license and no insurance in a truck that wasn't his. Luckily, my insurance covered everything, even my deductible and my premiums didn't even go up.

People ARE crazy out there.

Hope you get the rims paid for and car back good as new, best of luck.

Man I'm really sorry

But I'm REALLY glad you cought that beaatch!

It's so unbelievable what some people will do. I hope she has to pay AND goes to jail.

I remember reading a post here about a woman hitting a guys stang in a parking lot.

He had a camera and the security guy told him she hit him so he takes pics and is about to leave a note on the woman's car and she comes out yelling at HIM!

She denies everything and then he shows her the pics and she yells more. And he was willing to not involve the cops etc. but after that he did.

Everytime I park my car this is my worst fear... that someone will come along and smash it while I'm not there.

Good luck with the repairs man.

Louie,

I don't know about in the Netherlands, but in Germany they pay around 2000e ($2500) for a drivers license. In the US it costs about $30 (may be more now). The US culture and laws is not as advanced as the ones in Europe when it comes to insurance.

Hey Torrence,

Hope you get her back on the road soon!!! Hang in there....

I saw a show on Discovery about just that Alex.

Those costs are due to the driver having to take manditory road instruction coarses and tests.

I would personally LOVE it if it were that hard to get a license here. It would eliminate a lot of accidents I would imagine.

When I bought my Mustang here in Florida, I had to have proof of insurance before I could get a temp tag and even drive it off the lot.

+1 before I drove off the lot I had to have proof of insurance as well.

Can't wait to see what that police report is going to look like, I recon this is going to be a very BIG pill to swallow for this chick.

It would be rediculous to have to pay $2500 to get a license in US. We have such a crappy public transportation system, that just wouldn't fly.

That's the way here also for a new vehicle, but a used vehicle private party purchase does not require it.

Also our State is a "No Fault" so we cover our own vehicles and do not have to deal with others insurance. The Stangs are zero deductable, what ever the event.

same here...

There are many other differences that together lead to a more "civilized" environment on European streets and highways, such as 18 being the minimum driving age limit, the concept of "slow lanes" and "fast lanes", passing another car exclusively on the left on the highway (or on the right in the UK), proper driving lessons, huge fines for traffic violations and very strict licence tests.
However, the percentage of idiots is the same all over the world, and they cause pretty much the same problems when driving. I've seen people talking on cellphones, reading newspapers and putting on make-up while driving all over Europe, so we're not much better. It's just the fear of the (more serious) repercussions that keeps thinks in order here.
