Someone just hit my car

Title of the thread says it all. Car was parked and woman in a van side swiped me. Looks like whole driver side needs to be replaced from the rear pumper to the front. There goes the s/c, oh yeah my rims are damaged. More to come. It was a hit and run, but I jumped in another car and persude. Cops are towing van now.
More to come after I deal with the cops.......

So I went by moms last night after I got off of work this morning/night (I work nights) and just as I was about to go in the door. BAM white Winstar side swipes the entire left side. I yell out they keep going, I had the keys to another car and I pursued them. Woman was either drunk or high. Cops came and I told them the story they went to investigate and then they snatched the van up on a flat bed. Now the fun begins. I am on the way to the body shop and wil have to see about getting differen rims as one of them is badly scratched and the other two hit the curb pretty bad. The rims are discoed so oh well. Now the s/c will have to be put on hold till I see what the insurance company is going to do. Will let you all know how much the estimate is. I really hope I will be able to get new rims and I won' t have to pay for it.

Probably no freaking insurance. God I hate people like that.
I had my car Hit & Run when I was in college.
That person was never caught.

Sorry to hear about your injured Stang

Wow, that's crazy. Sorry to hear it. If there's one positive, it's that you were able to quickly follow her and the cops arrested her. I just hope she can pay. Good luck.

and of course it is jersey, the master of the no insurance driver

isnt it amazing how your car can be parked on the side of a street, or in a parking lot, you are no where near it. THe car gets hit, and your insurance goes up so in the end you pay for the damage anyway.

it makes one wonder why insurance even exists

Sorry to hear that, man!

There's something I don't get though: why is it possible in the US to drive a car without insurance?! (joyriding and stolen cars excluded). In Europe if you're ever stopped by police and they find out you have no insurance you get a huge fine, they confiscate the registration papers and/or impound the car until you provide a valid proof of insurance. Over here it's the person driving the car that's insured, based on age, driving record and type of car. And you're obliged by law to at least be covered for damages caused by you to another car or person in case of an accident. The risk of ever being in a situation like Torrence's is almost non-existent, although it's not cheap. I pay ~$200/month for a full insurance, being 30 and having 12 years of driving experience without any accidents for my GT.

People caught without insurance should be executed on-site.

The laws are very similar here, and are supposed to keep people from inflicting damage on your car that they cannot afford to fix. Unfortunately, its very difficult to track down drivers without insurance, unless they get pulled over or are involved in an accident. If a driver is caught without insurance though, a lot of cities or states will have the car impounded immediately. Still, this doesnt deter everyone from driver uninsured, like the late-nite drunk loser that hit Torrence's car.

Just like drunk driving. You're not supposed to,but how many do it w/out getting caught? Torrence, hang in there. If your insurance gets more expensive after this fiasco, call around for a new company

Torrence, have you checked with your insurance co. yet? They are usually pretty good about taking care of you, especially if they have a police report stating it wasn't your fault. Then they will go after the other person's insurance company first, and if that doesn't cover it all, or they don't have insurance, they'll go after the person themselves. They have rooms full of lawyers just for instances like this.

When I had my accident, my first call was to the police, and my second call was to my insurance company. I dealt with them the whole time, and only spoke to the other person's insurance company twice, once to give them my account of what happened, and once to have them tell me the check to reimburse me for my deductible was on the way.

At first though, we didn't think there was any insurance to deal with, but my company handled every thing great.

Hopefully you have the uninsured/underinsured policy on there as well.

Good luck, hope everything turns out good for you.

Oh, and post pics when you get a chance, before, durning, and after repairs. You know we all love pics.

OH MAN T! I'm so sorry to hear this happened to you but WTG catching that woman. How did you get the cops so quickly? Was this like a scene out of Wildest Police Chases? Best of luck with everything, I hope you can get this taken care of and get your stang back on the road sooner than later (& maybe with new rims).

Sorry about your car, glad you were not in it and did not get hurt. Hope all goes well with insurance and such. Let us know when the public flogging is to take place, I'll bring a cooler and some eats, we'll make it a day for all Stang lovers!

Holy crap T

Don't worry, your s/c is still there.. you have insurance so all you would be out of pocket would be your deductible. Yeah it's a hit against the s/c fund but at least not the entire fund.

Not that that makes this any better, I feel for ya brother. Same thing happened to me on a Legend Coupe I used to own. Some drunk *** played pinball down the street and took out the entire side of my car, bumper to bumper wheels and all. Never caught the person. I payed my deductible and they fixed the car.

Your insurance rates should NOT go up as a result of this. If they try to raise your rates, take your business elsewhere (after they fix your car of course ).

Really sorry this happened T. Anything I can do to help, just lemme know.

No, I'm not buying you a supercharger

Thanks all.

This is really frustrating. The cops went to the ladies house and she did not answer, so that is when they took her van. She is in some serious doo doo now.

My insurance company seems to be great at the moment I am really concerned about the rims as I switched from Geico (and they were covered) now I am with Travelers and they said we are going to go after this lady for eveything including the deductable and cost of the rims. The funny thing is, when I went to confront the lady she was screeming that she has insurance and blamed me for what happened. I really think she was high or drunk and that is why she didn't stop. The body shop has the car and I have no idea how long they are going to have it for. The whole left side of the car has to be replaced. UNBELIEVEABLE. He gave me a rough estimate of 4,000 big ones minimum and that is not including the cost of the rims. So depending on how things go next week, I may have a s/c and new rims next week.
I am sporting this Jetta at the moment for a rental.

usually in a mild sideswipe like that, the damage is usually cosmetic.

My reccomendation to you is insist the shop repairing the car uses genuine Ford parts. The offshore knockoffs are horrible. Try and find a shop you can trust (its really hard).

Also, when you get the car back, inspect it thoroughly for any flaws in the paint (fisheyes, overspray, dry spray, etc), in addition to any flaws in the bodywork.
