Question Sitting on a folded vert top during a parade?

Any thoughts or experience with letting a couple of great neighborhood high-schoolers sit on top of my folded convertible top while I drive them in a home-town parade? I would protect the top fabric with the boot, and the seat with a blanket. Maybe I could get them to rest part of their weight on the back headrests......I don't know.

I'm obviously concerned about damaging the structure of the top.

It goes without saying I won't be doing any burn-outs during the parade......

Thanks, Mike.

I'd do burnouts before I would let someone sit on my top.

Someone was doing parades on another forum with no immediate problems. Personally, I wouldn't do it. Even if not immediately noticeable it could lead to complications down the road. The weight of a couple people compounded by the plopping down and shifting around can't be good. I consider it a "No Step" area. Any Ford engineers out there?

Prop up the trunk as a back rest so you can do all the burn outs you want.

I was at the drive in and two people tried sitting on the headrests and found it incredibly uncomfortable after only a minute or two. So that's probably not going to be an option.

I too consider it a no step area.

Hurry up and mount a roll cage in there with a cross bar they can sit on.

Might even be able to use thate excuse to justify it to the wife.... assuming you're married.

Thanks for the help so far.......maybe I can build up the rear seat cushions, like a step or stool, and get the riders high enough. I don't really want them sitting on the top.........

I am going to be making a set of removeable seats that sit a couple feet above the regular seats. there are a couple of places to bolt in a structure and I have a set of take off seat covers from a coupe. I will post up once that has been done, but this is kind of low on priorities right now.

I did a homecoming parade last year. Two teenie boppers basically stood on the seats ( shoes off ) and leaned against the headrests. I also did a parade where my 11 year old did the same thing and slung candy.

How about having the riders side-saddle? More or less facing each other, with their feet (on blankets for protection) on the seats and theirs butts on the rear side window sills (also on blankets for comfort).

I'm thinking that should be much stronger structurally than having them possibly bend the top frame by sitting on it and maybe crumpling the rear headrests in the process .

I seem to recall something from back in the day called a "parade boot". It was a hard-shell deal (fiberglass?) made for cars like Caddys that were frequently used in parades just so there would be no damage to the top when it was sat on. Not sure if there is enough of an aftermarket these days for something like this for a Mustang.

Hmm, couldn't you just take out the rear lower seat cushion (it just snaps out) and let them stand on the metal floor board where the seats were? They could just hold onto the front seats when doing a burnout.
