I ordered from a dealer that is about 50 miles from my house (because the locals seemed unknowledgeable and I got a better deal by phone) and there are several within a few miles which I assume I'll be able to go to for service and warranty repairs. Will this cause any issues ? Any advice ? TIA

I hope it won't affect it at all. I am planning to move about 45 miles away later this year and won't have my current dealer to service my car. We'll just have to wait and see. I suspect this will be a regional issue and will have different results for different users.

Ford must honor any warranty issues through and Ford dealer. My main concern would be how familiar are the techs with the car and related TSB's? I like to make a fuss before letting anyone work on my car(s) and insist on speaking directly to the tech who will be doing the work. Have also had great results in slipping the guy a ten-spot before he gets started on the car...it's well worth the small investment to have someone really take care of your vehicle!!

John,

That's a great idea. I'll be getting service about 5000 miles from where I brought, so I'll be looking for any little edge to help me get good work.

It shouldn't make any difference. Why lose your business a second time? Besides, the salesman you dealt with has a 50/50 chance of still being there, and if he is, then show him your car. Maybe next time they'll get your business.

Just build a good rapport with a service advisor. A cup of coffee and some pastries can work wonders.

Makes no difference. My 05 hasn't been back to the selling dealership since I picked it up. Everything is in the Ford database.

Great points. Thanks for all the input. Once again TMS RULES !. Maybe I'll be lucky and not need a ton of warranty work.

Doesn't mean a thing .... Take it to any Ford Lincoln dealer of your choice .... Dealer doesn't care ... They get paid ..

The service department doesn't care where your car came from. When they get paid, the're happy.
What you lose are the small perks like free car wash, or free loaner car while yours is being serviced.
All easily outweighed by using a better service dept. at another dealer.
I bought a '91 Mustang from a volume dealer known for poor service. Great price on the car and I only used their service dept. once because I couldn't get a ride to work.

I agree. I bought mine at a dealer that was 1 hour away. I take it in to a dealer that is 10 minutes away. No problems.

I live in Minneapolis but bought mine in Des Moines because of a great deal that a buddy of mine worked for me down there. Right now mine is in the service dept. at a local dealer in Mpls. (electronic throttle body quit on me). The service guy has been extremely nice and calls me every day with updates on the car. Throttle bodys are on back order so he talked to Ford to get one pulled off the line. Part should be coming in today, can't wait! Long story short it makes no difference. Just take it to a dealership that is most respectable in your eyes and they'll love you for your business.

I never have had a problem with using a different dealer for service/warranty issues. I guess if you had a warranty issue that was a real PIA and took it back numerous times, some dealers (as I have read on the site) might tell you to take it back where you bought it but, as others have stated, they are on shaky ground.

bought mine 20 miles away from my house, go to the Ford Dealer about a mile down from my house, never have a problem, they just get nasty when they find out that I didn't buy the car from them. And I'm always honest with them, if I bought a car from you, one, you would ask for too much for it and second, i wouldn't have it until 2006. No offense but they are a slow Ford Dealer. I went there for an oil change once cause I had a free coupon, 2 1/2 hrs for an oil change?? rediculous....
