Select dealers are the very small, usually rural dealers, that are to small to even be visited by Ford zone rep. Larger(the majority of dealers) are called contact dealers, as in contacted by Ford reps. Ford has a separate allocation system for select dealers as they sell to few cars to earn any under the earn and turn system. Hence the memo saying they will only get 2 Mustangs during system fill.
Contact dealers will get more and we will know how many in the beginning of June when Ford does the first allocation. Your dealer should be able to tell you at that time how many they are getting and where you are in their allocation.

I thought I'd share my ordering process.

May 25, 2004

Deryn,

I just submitted the order for the Mustang GT. The order processing people
at Ford accepted the order but stated that the first scheduling of Mustang
orders will take place in July for a September build date. Your order was
accepted and is in the system. Don't worry about the deposit. I don't need
any of your money at this time. Your order number is 0001.

Any questions, just E-mail.

Thanks,

Ron

Way to go derynf. Right along with ya with the first order at the dealer

Of course, yours is a GT, and mine is a V6 Premium, but a Mustang nonetheless.

I am the General Sales Manager at Chapman Ford of Lancaster, PA.
I am happy to try to add any info or perspective to this great forum. Please forgive me if I do not respond immediately to a question as sometimes I get pretty busy.

So, that means that only certain dealers (read: hicksville, downstate illinois) are getting two stangs, and those that do move alot of cars will get more? B/C I have been putting off ordering b/c I procrastinate and this is all getting me anxious

Bek, Kev, someone?

Yes, most likely you are correct. However, the first allocation of 05 Mustangs will occur in the first two weeks of June, so NO dealer (except Select dealers mentioned in that Ford memo)knows yet exactly how many they are getting in the initial run. Allocation is when the Ford rep comes to my store and we negotiate how many vehicles over a period of time I will get and accept from Ford.

Basically what BEK is saying is if your dealer has a lot of cars on the lot, you'll be all set, however if its a small dealer you are in trouble. If the dealer has SVT certification, they will get more than 2 cars in the first allocation.

How does the average joe find out what kind of certification a particular dealership has?

If a dealer is SVT certified it will be easy to determine. They will have SVT info and products, IE. Cobras, Lightnings and SVT Focus. There are other certifications like Blue Oval, Presidents Award, and now even Hybrid Escape which a dealer can provide proof of if asked.
