I was wondering if saleen mustangs come with upgraded headers or cams. Say if you get the "E" what more can you do to improve performance besides maybe a better blower but other than that forgetting cost. maybe a p&p. Also what kind of h or x-pipe does it come with and i'm guessing it comes with a cat back but not sure.

An upgraded blower would probably be the most apparent item. Maybe seats as well, but on the 03/04 models, I don't think there was any external differences.

Are you referring to the '05's? There hasn't been any word at all on the "Extreme".

I am still holding out for the Ford GT motor. The last time I heard the rep from Saleen talk about the car, they dropped the s281 and just called in the "Saleen Extreme". That points to a motor swap to me. And, if they are shooting for 500-550hp in a streetable/waranteed motor, that just may be the best and easiest way to do it.

No one knows though. Either way, I won't be able to afford it.

Right now it's all speculation about the E. We do know it will have around 500hp. So, in Saleen math, it'll have about 400 to the wheels (Saleen claims 20% drivetrain loss) That can easily be done with a built bottom end and twin screw blower on 3V heads. Who knows though, maybe they bought up some old 03/04 Cobra Motors. In any case, that's a huge base price to spend if you plan on modifying more. You'll probably spend half as much buying a regular S281 and upgrading the engine yourself to BETTER than E specs.

a 20% drivetrain loss?that sounds pretty bad to me especially with the money your spending for what you would think would be well over 400+ to wheels, i thought the "E" would be upwards of $60,000

The 2002-2004 Saleen SR (street cars, 1 produced that I know of) were not able to be sold with the S351-SC engines as the EPA Cert expired (that is what killed the S351 at midnight December 31, 1999), and were actually spec'd out with tweeked "E" engines that were basically a pulley swap & tune, and then they were making 505hp.

If I had to guess, the same thinking is making it down into the "E" for 2005.

I just sold my '89 vert, #634 this week to a friend of my brothers.

I still have 85-0069, Black Hatch, and 00-00291 S281-SC White Speedster.

The '85 is currently up for sale, as I am working on trying to position myself to pick up a different Saleen.

Interesting, I presently have 89-604 (vert), and I had 85-099 (a black hatch).

Both of our cars #s were off by exactly 30.

What are you asking for the 85? Does it have the Hayashi wheels?

I was wondering the same thing, another post showed that a catback systenm only gained 5hp. Pullys might be good for the difference. If its true Saleen rates it hp gains at the flywheel.

Saleen is using a different intake as well. Combine the exhaust. intake, and most likely a different fuel/ignition map, and you can get 25 hp.

Did you get my PM?

Yes, I have the Hayashi wheels, currently not on the car. The car currently has Saleen Speedline 17" wheels on it.

That is wild!
